Franken Von Vogler was a brilliant scientist and theologian who collaborated with Dr. Shizuma to develop the revolutionary Shizuma Drive, intended to end reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power. He uncovered a catastrophic design flaw in the drive, but his warnings were ignored during prototype activation at the Bashtarle reactor in Belgium. This triggered the Tragedy of Bashtarle, a meltdown that annihilated the region and killed one-third of Earth's population. He survived only because his son Emmanuel teleported them both to safety during his futile attempt to stabilize the reaction.

After the tragedy, Shizuma publicly blamed Von Vogler, leading to his global vilification. Consumed by guilt, he lived in self-imposed exile with Emmanuel within the ruins of Bashtarle, descending into despair and refusing to speak or eat. His breaking point occurred when Emmanuel presented him with a completed Shizuma Drive unit now in worldwide production. Locking himself in his ruined laboratory, Von Vogler modified the three original prototype Shizuma Drives to counteract the fatal flaw he had discovered: the production drives released an undetectable toxic byproduct accumulating in the atmosphere, destined to eradicate all oxygen and render Earth uninhabitable. His modifications allowed the prototypes, when activated together, to emit an energy wave neutralizing this toxicity globally.

Emerging from the lab near death from malnutrition, his final act was to entrust the modified prototypes to Emmanuel with the cryptic instruction to "stop Shizuma." He died in his son's arms immediately afterward. This phrase, coupled with his tarnished legacy and Emmanuel's grief, was misinterpreted as a call for vengeance against Shizuma and humanity, rather than an instruction to deploy the corrective measure. Unbeknownst to Emmanuel, Von Vogler had recorded a message explaining his plan to save humanity, attached to the prototypes. This misunderstanding drove Emmanuel, now calling himself Genya, to ally with the terrorist organization Big Fire and initiate a campaign of global destruction.

Von Vogler's legacy extended to his daughter, Falmelle, who survived Bashtarle via teleportation alongside his assistant Professor Go and later became the agent Ginrei within the Experts of Justice under an assumed identity. His final wish for a "beautiful night" symbolized his hope for a future free from the dangers of unchecked scientific ambition, achieved through honesty and sacrifice rather than bitterness or revenge. His true intentions and sacrifice were only revealed after Genya's near-successful campaign, when the recording was discovered, exposing that Von Vogler sought redemption and planetary salvation, not retribution.
