Emerging from stone as a monkey, Alakazam earns kingship through a daring dive into a perilous waterfall, proving his initial courage. This bravery establishes his leadership, yet his reign swiftly turns oppressive. He rules arrogantly, mistreats his tribe, and dismisses human superiority. Learning of human intelligence sparks insecurity, driving his quest for greater power. He confronts the hermit Merlin and extorts magical training through threats, gaining formidable abilities. Renamed Son Goku, he ascends to Majutsu Land to impress his love, Rin-Rin. There, he disrupts the celestial realm, steals sacred fruit, and overpowers guards. His arrogance peaks in a challenge against King Amo (Buddha), who defeats him, resulting in imprisonment beneath the Five Elements Mountain. Rin-Rin remains loyal, tending to him as his arrogance wanes during captivity. Freed by the monk Genjo Sanzo for a pilgrimage to retrieve sacred scriptures, he accepts a magical headband enabling Sanzo to inflict pain, enforcing compliance. This begins his journey as the monk's protector. He recruits companions during the pilgrimage. First, he subdues the pig-like Cho Hakkai, who was forcing marriage on a human girl, by disguising himself as the bride. Later, he defeats the cannibalistic ogre Sa Gojō, compelling both into joining the quest. His growth faces tests from adversaries like Gyū-Maō, who seeks to devour Sanzo. Demonstrating strategic cunning, Alakazam secures the Basho-Sen fan to overcome volcanic barriers, though briefly paralyzed by Gyū-Maō's treacherous minion, Shōryū. He spares Shōryū upon witnessing remorse, revealing newfound mercy. In the climax, he rescues captured companions and defeats Gyū-Maō by freezing him in lava. Completing the pilgrimage, Buddha removes the headband, signifying his redemption. Alakazam returns to his tribe, reunites with Rin-Rin, and leads with newfound humility and wisdom, embodying learned compassion and selflessness.
