Description
General Ross Igor, a Russian commander, leads the Cyber Beast Force (Jyusenkitai), a military unit created to fight the alien Muge Zorbados Empire's invasion. He personally selected the four primary pilots—Shinobu Fujiwara, Sara Yuki, Masato Shikibu, and Ryo Shiba—to operate the Cyber Beast Machines.
His leadership enforces strict military discipline, prioritizing the mission above individual concerns. Ross insists the pilots are soldiers first, obligated to follow orders without hesitation, even at the cost of their lives. He physically enforces this, slapping subordinates who question his authority. Despite this rigidity, he strategically withheld critical mecha capabilities—including humanoid transformations and the Dancouga combination—until he deemed the pilots mentally and operationally prepared. He also delayed an assault on the Muge homeworld, citing the Gundor ship's limited operational lifespan and waiting for the team's peak effectiveness.
A significant family conflict defines his background. He is estranged from his son, Alan Igor, who opposes his tactics and leads a separate resistance group, the "Black Knights." Ross initially dismisses inquiries about Alan and denies their relationship. A later revelation uncovers that Laura Sullivan, a young orphan adopted by the team's scientist Professor Hazuki, is Ross's granddaughter and Alan's daughter.
His death occurs during a battle in episode 29 ("General Attack Pt II"). He sacrifices himself to protect Laura from enemy forces infiltrating their base, gunning down adversaries while shielding her. This act reveals a protective nature beneath his austere exterior. His demise leads Professor Hazuki to assume command of the Cyber Beast Force and the Gundor vessel.
In subsequent OVAs like "God Bless Dancouga," his legacy shapes ongoing events, though he does not reappear. His tactical foresight and the concealed familial bonds with Alan and Laura continue to resonate with the surviving characters.
