Description
Merill Yanagawa, alias Benten, is an albino convict serving a 295-year sentence with a parole probability of 0.008%. His lengthy criminal history encompasses murder, assault, currency and ID forgery, embezzlement, public property damage, aviation and space law violations, and breaches of criminal regulations. To reduce his sentence, he participates in a Cyber Police program capturing high-level criminals, controlled by an explosive collar detonating for mission time overruns or tampering attempts.

He possesses a striking androgynous appearance: pale skin, white hair, red eyes, and a hairstyle evoking kabuki actors or Tina Turner. He frequently wears red lipstick and nail polish, with both ears pierced. Colleague Sengoku sometimes mocks this effeminate look, but Yanagawa typically ignores such remarks.

His primary weapon is a monowire hidden in a ring on his left hand, capable of slicing human tissue, concrete, and tool-grade steel. Coupled with exceptional agility, acrobatic skill, and reflexes enabling him to dodge laser beams, he is a lethal combatant. He demonstrates proficiency in lock-breaking and marksmanship, including hitting moving targets under harsh conditions like direct sunlight. Off-duty, he practices astrology, often interpreting stellar alignments as bad omens.

Assigned to investigate three geneticists' murders linked to an immortality virus project, he encounters Remi Masuda, a cryogenically preserved woman turned psychic vampire through illegal experiments. He shows empathy during their meeting in her cherished park, discussing life, death, and fate. Later, he confronts the project's mastermind, Shuzo Saionji, who gained immortality, teleportation, and psychic powers from the virus. Though impaled by Saionji's sword, Yanagawa persists, administering an antidote that reverses the transformation, causing Saionji's rapid aging and death.

His professional demeanor is methodical and focused. He gathers intelligence from underworld contacts via persuasion or coercion and delivers legal warnings with detached efficiency during arrests. Interactions with colleagues are minimal, maintaining a working relationship under handler Juzo Hasegawa's oversight. The documented media depicts no significant backstory or character evolution beyond his established role and traits.
