Description
Takeru Houjou stands as a central protagonist, first appearing as a disgruntled karate champion famed for his exceptional fighting skills and unique style. He reluctantly transforms through a dangerous augmentation to pilot "Puraiza" (Magnetman Plus), a vital component of the super robot Ga-Keen defending Earth against alien threats. This process enables deep physical and mental synchronization with co-pilot Mai Kazuki, as their combined energies activate the robot. Their piloting sequence features a complex mid-air fusion into a metallic unit integrating with Ga-Keen's core, demanding total interdependence.

A notable flashback reveals him karate-chopping a bull, showcasing his inherent fearlessness and combat prowess before the alien conflict. Initially resistant, he spurns the pilot role when approached, displaying anti-hero traits. Witnessing conventional defenses fail against monstrous attacks compels him to accept the responsibility, driven by duty and a competitive drive to prove superior capability. In battle, he exhibits confident, adaptable, and occasionally cocky leadership, relying on quick decision-making and problem-solving.

Despite outward bravery, he faces significant internal conflict, evolving from a self-assured warrior to confronting personal doubts and vulnerabilities. These struggles never override his commitment to protecting humanity, consistently reaffirming his role as Ga-Keen's pilot. His partnership with Mai begins with persistent friction, following a narrative arc where initial discord gradually forges mutual reliance. This dynamic proves critical for operational effectiveness and embodies themes of unity and magnetic polarity.

His development across the storyline balances maintaining core traits—determination, resilience, loyalty—with confronting limitations. This complexity positions him as an archetype of his era's super robot pilots while navigating nuanced personal growth amidst warfare.
