Description
Sonnet Barge, alias Blue Sonnet, is a 16-year-old esper cyborg. Her mother hails from Puerto Rico, while her father is Caucasian-Russian. She grew up in New York City's impoverished quarters, enduring significant hardship from childhood. Around age 13, her latent psychic abilities erupted uncontrollably, earning her the labels "witch" and "devil child" from her community. This ostracization forced her mother into prostitution for survival. A pivotal deception—convincing Sonnet her mother faced imminent death—triggered her full esper powers.

This event led to her recruitment by the organization Talon. There, she received cybernetic enhancements, transforming her into a soldier primarily serving as a reconnaissance agent. Her missions involved tracking and neutralizing other espers, notably a young woman named Lan Komatsuzaki, suspected of being the legendary "Crimson Fang" esper. Talon deployed her undercover as a high school student in Japan to investigate and eliminate Lan.

Initially, Sonnet exhibited unwavering loyalty to Talon, executing missions with stoic detachment. She possessed formidable abilities: superhuman strength, speed, and psychokinetic powers enabling electrical shocks, force bolts, telekinesis, and protective force fields. Her powers frequently caused collateral damage to nearby nonliving objects, bending, shattering, or overturning them. Her cybernetics further augmented her physical capabilities, including precise range and time sensing.

During her Japanese assignment, interactions with Lan and fellow students sparked unexpected camaraderie. This exposure to friendship and connection prompted Sonnet to question Talon's directives and her role as their operative. She began experiencing compassion and emotional confusion, contradicting her conditioning for emotional detachment.

A key influence was observing Lan's relationship with her boyfriend, Shuichi Torigai (Bird). Witnessing their genuine affection introduced Sonnet to the concept of real love for the first time. This experience deepened her internal conflict regarding Talon's ethics and accelerated her reevaluation of their mission.

Her burgeoning humanity made intense positive emotions capable of triggering physical system overloads or shutdowns. Despite Talon's efforts to maintain control, Sonnet's journey culminated in doubting the morality of her actions and the organization's goals, pushing her towards questioning authority and seeking personal truth.
