Description
Albert Robson is a former professional footballer who played as a striker for the England national team, known as the England Leopards. Born into a wealthy English family, he faced significant familial disapproval over his football ambitions, as his father expected him to inherit the family business. This conflict led to estrangement; he did not attend his father's funeral, further straining relations with his younger brother, Charles Robson.
A personal tragedy precipitated his retirement: the death of his lover, Jenny, in an accident. This loss profoundly impacted him and solidified his departure from professional sports, contributing to his identity as a "heartbroken badass" carrying unresolved grief from both her death and their prior separation due to her family's opposition. After retiring, he relocated to Genoa, Italy, establishing and operating a medical clinic in a working-class neighborhood.
His life shifted upon encountering Hikaru Yoshikawa (adapted as Carlos in Italian and Benjamin in French dubs), a young football talent orphaned after his diplomat parents died in a plane crash. Recognizing Hikaru's potential and empathizing with his loss, Robson assumed guardianship to prevent the boy's relocation to Japan with an aunt who disapproved of football. He became Hikaru's mentor, overseeing rigorous training and facilitating his entry into the local team Columbus. Robson enlisted his friend Bertini as coach and delegated some training to Anna Liegi, his veterinary assistant and a skilled female footballer at his clinic.
Driven by his philosophy that talent transcends national borders, Robson conceived and founded the multinational youth team Jupiter Wings (J-Wings). This required reconciling with his brother Charles, who provided financial backing conditional on the team achieving competitive success. Robson assumed managerial duties, applying strategic acumen honed during his playing career to unify diverse players—including former rivals Julian Ray and Cesare Gatti—into a cohesive unit, emphasizing collective ambition over individual or nationalistic glory.
Robson functioned as a paternal figure to Hikaru and Anna, with his dynamic with Hikaru being particularly central. He supported Hikaru's romantic involvement with Catherine Ray despite initial reservations, reflecting a protective instinct. His pragmatic yet compassionate ethos extended beyond football; he mentored Lucas Rondi during family instability and advocated for Cesare's inclusion in Jupiter Wings despite the latter's abrasive history with Hikaru and Julian.
Robson's backstory reveals principled defiance of societal expectations, from rejecting his family's legacy to promoting gender inclusivity by supporting Anna's career. Establishing Jupiter Wings realized his ideal of a team unbounded by nationality, forged through shared purpose. This endeavor also facilitated his emotional reconciliation with Charles, mending their long-fractured familial ties through collaborative support of the team.
