Zoll, a Tokargan officer from the occupied planet Tokarga, serves the Illumidus Earth Occupation Forces under General Zeda. His duties involve enforcing Imperial decrees on Earth, including the capture of resistance leaders like Captain Harlock for interrogation. Bound by his people's subjugation to Illumidus, Zoll demonstrates disciplined adherence to orders. He honors a pact with Harlock, granting him limited freedom before a tribunal despite their opposition. However, his loyalty is tempered by the Tokargans' collective shame over their forced complicity in Earth's invasion and their own planet's conquest. A pivotal revelation shatters his compliance. La Mime, a survivor of the destroyed planet Allosaurus, informs Zoll of a clandestine Illumidus plan: the imminent annihilation of Tokarga. This ignites his rebellion. Abandoning his occupation role, Zoll conspires with his Tokargan soldiers to steal Queen Emeraldas's spacecraft. Their desperate goal is to reach Tokarga and defend their homeworld or perish with their people during its destruction. This plan is thwarted when La Mime discloses their intentions to Harlock and his allies. Confronted, Zoll attempts to silence her, but her explanation of the Tokargans' wish to meet annihilation with dignity on their home soil earns Harlock's understanding. Consequently, Zoll and his men abandon the theft. Instead, they align with the human resistance during the Earth rebellion, providing tactical support against Illumidus forces during the launch of the spaceship Arcadia. Zoll's story culminates in sacrifice. As the Arcadia navigates the perilous Flame Stream Prominence—a cosmic phenomenon known as the "Owen Stanley Witch of Space"—Zoll and his Tokargan warriors deliberately draw enemy fire onto their own vessel. This diversion allows the Arcadia to escape the phenomenon's destructive energies, ensuring its survival at the cost of their lives.
