Description
Konrad de Marbourg serves as a captain-level Inquisitor, wielding de facto legal authority over Rumble Town. He nurtures a deep-seated hatred for immigrants and sorcerers originating at least fifteen years before the main narrative, a bigotry that drove his involvement in a catastrophic sector collapse within Rumble Town. To achieve this, he collaborated with the sorceress Hameline, orchestrating Nemesis attacks targeting populations he deemed undesirable.

Physically, Konrad transforms significantly. Early in his career as a low-ranking soldier, he appeared relatively tall with an average build and minimal facial hair. Later, he developed a comically exaggerated mustache and gained substantial muscle mass, creating a hulking, intimidating presence. After ingesting a Techno-Magic potion, his physique distorted further to monstrous proportions, accompanied by a darkening of his skin.

His personality is defined by cynicism, xenophobia, and manipulative cunning. He exhibits contempt for subordinates, enforcing petty discipline and demanding absolute obedience. Konrad employs propaganda to incite public panic and direct hatred towards immigrants and sorcerers, frequently fabricating crises to justify violence. His deceit extends to high-level betrayal, most notably against his former superior, Major Oxumare. Konrad engineered a Nemesis attack to create an opportunity to assassinate Oxumare, subsequently framing innocent sorcerers for the murder, motivated by Oxumare's compassionate stance towards the infected conflicting with Konrad's genocidal objectives.

Konrad delusionally perceives himself as Rumble Town's indispensable "protective wall," convinced his atrocities serve a greater good. This conviction drives him to sacrifice even non-immigrant citizens to achieve his aims. In the present timeline, he repeats his earlier tactics: coordinating with Hameline to lure immigrants and citizens into a false evacuation, then destroying the evacuation route to murder them en masse, systematically pinning the crimes on immigrant populations.

His relationship with Hameline is exploitative and abusive. Historical mistreatment by Konrad, including inciting a mob to kill her friends, directly contributed to her descent into misanthropy. He later manipulates her trauma for his genocidal schemes while remaining oblivious to her identity as his past victim. Interactions with characters like Captain Dragunov reveal Konrad's immature, domineering tendencies; he resists taking orders and is easily flustered by reverse psychology, undermining his authority.

During the Rumble Town arc, Konrad's actions culminate in a confrontation with the sorcerer Seth. After witnessing Konrad's atrocities, Seth engages him in combat. Seth defeats Konrad, though Konrad's survival remains ambiguous. His final moments reflect his inability to reconcile his defeat with his self-image as Rumble Town's unwavering defender.

Within the Inquisition's hierarchy, Konrad holds the rank of captain commanding Rumble Town. His death is later listed in the organization's records, aligning with the ambiguity following his battle with Seth. The character draws loose thematic inspiration from the historical Konrad von Marburg, a medieval German inquisitor known for extreme cruelty and heresy trials.
