Description
Shale, also known as Pirotess or Sheru in later chronicles, is a dark elf defined by unshakable loyalty to Ashram, the Black Knight of Marmo. Originally dispatched as an assassin to eliminate him, she abandoned her mission to swear fealty instead, fighting alongside him through countless battles. Her striking appearance—dark skin contrasted with flowing blonde or white hair, hazel eyes, and white attire—mirrors her lethal precision as a warrior, always armed with a rapier-like blade.

Following the War of the Destroyer’s Resurrection, she journeyed with Ashram to Crystania, where he bargained his body to the god Barbas for land to shelter their people. For three centuries, renamed Sheru, she waited for his return, enduring his enslavement while joining the Fang of the Animal resistance to undermine Barbas. Her quest for the Chaos Ring, a relic she believed could break the god’s hold, intertwined with Prince Redon’s pursuit of vengeance against his parents’ killers. Together, they braved Crystania’s perils and the Chaos World’s horrors.

In a desperate gambit, Sheru wielded Soul Crusher—a blade linked to Ashram’s past—to wound herself, jolting his suppressed memories and weakening Barbas’ grip. This act temporarily freed Ashram, though his soul remained ensnared in the god’s schemes. Earlier, in the *Record of Lodoss War* timeline, she plotted to capture the high elf Deedlit for a ritual to resurrect Kardis, clashing with foes like Shiris and Orson while prioritizing Ashram’s safety above all, even sacrificing herself during a clash at Fire Dragon Mountain.

After Ashram’s physical death in Crystania, Sheru persisted in her crusade to liberate his soul from Barbas’ torment. Partnering with Redon and the warrior Yoof, she endured visions and battles across the Chaos World, culminating in a fleeting peace for Ashram’s spirit. She then withdrew to guard his legacy in Berudia, the kingdom they forged together, her devotion unyielding across centuries.
