Description
Ichiro is the prototype android created by Dr. Komyoji before Jiro (Kikaider), designated Kikaider 01. Initially sealed within a temple statue by the monk Futen, he later emerges to combat the Hakaider Squad and the SHADOW organization. Unlike Jiro, Ichiro lacks a conscience circuit (Gemini system), resulting in a more impulsive, hot-blooded, and combat-focused personality. He seethes with jealousy toward Jiro's human popularity and dismisses emotional attachments as weaknesses, viewing robots solely as tools.
In human guise, Ichiro appears as a young man with short brown hair, typically clad in a white jacket, red shirt, jeans, and dark shoes. He carries a trumpet, mirroring Jiro's guitar, and rides the Double Machine motorcycle with a sidecar. Transforming into Kikaider 01 involves covering his face before revealing his robotic form, featuring inverted blue and red coloration compared to Jiro and more prominent lenses. His robot form relies on solar energy, rendering him powerless in darkness.
Ichiro's combat abilities encompass firing energy blasts from stored solar power, flight via rocket boots, and a machine gun arm replacing his damaged right limb. Signature attacks include the "01 Driver" spinning double corkscrew punch and "Blast End" energy beams from his hands. He performs team attacks with Jiro and Bijinder like "Double Brother Power" and "Kikaider Triple Circle Power," though these risk system overload. Despite greater firepower than Jiro, Ichiro's lack of a conscience circuit makes him vulnerable to manipulation, exploited by SHADOW using his jealousy to turn him against his brother.
Across his story, Ichiro undergoes partial maturation. Initially indifferent to humans and dismissive of Jiro's sentimentality, he gradually develops loyalty to his "brothers" and allies. He allies with the female android Bijinder after removing her obedience circuits, demonstrating a capacity for trust despite his programming. His development culminates in joining forces with Jiro and Rei (Kikaider 00) to storm SHADOW’s base. However, Professor Gill (in the Hakaider body) implants obedience circuits into Ichiro and his allies, turning them into mind-controlled servants. Under Gill’s control, Ichiro aids SHADOW's destruction until Jiro, forced to bypass his own conscience circuit, destroys him and the other compromised androids. This event profoundly impacts Jiro’s psyche, while Ichiro’s physical form meets permanent deactivation.
