Description
Gil Hakaider emerged from Professor Gill, the megalomaniacal former leader of the criminal syndicate DARK. Gill created destructive robots called Destructoids to dominate the world, first collaborating with Dr. Komyoji before coercing him into building killer robots. After Kikaider (Jiro) fatally wounded Gill, three DARK scientists salvaged his brain and implanted it into Hakaider—a combat android originally designed by Komyoji to house his own brain. This fusion birthed Gil Hakaider. The scientists similarly transplanted their brains into android bodies, forming the Hakaider Corps under his command.
In *Kikaider-01: The Animation*, Gil Hakaider directs the Hakaider Squad—Red, Blue, and Silver Hakaiders—to capture his son Akira. Akira bears half the blueprints for Gill’s colossal Giant Devil (Armageddon Lord) tattooed on his back, with the other half on his brother Hiroshi. Completing this robot would enable global conquest. After defeats by Kikaider 01 (Ichiro) and Jiro, SHADOW—a rival organization led by Big Shadow—forcibly recruits Gil Hakaider. Though nominally subordinate, he defies SHADOW to pursue the Giant Devil and his vendetta against the Kikaider androids.
Gil Hakaider embodies cruelty, arrogance, and manipulation, contrasting the nihilism of the original Hakaider (Saburo). He retains none of Saburo’s memories or traits and murders civilians without hesitation. His SHADOW-era missions blend brutality with absurdity—raiding warehouses for toilet paper or exterminating dogs to placate a subordinate’s phobia. His arsenal includes the Hakaider Shot, Destruction Sword, whip, and later an Iron Belt. Abilities encompass generating dark clouds (Satan Darkness), eye-glow hypnosis, and transformation into the tenfold-stronger Monster Robot Black Dragon. He combines with other Hakaiders to form the fortyfold-powered Gattaider. After summoning Gill’s spirit, he gains techniques like Outlaw Kick, Magma Upper, Guillotine Hook, and Hakaider Shoot.
His story culminates in the OVA *Kikaider 01: The Animation*: capturing Akira, activating the Armageddon Lord, and implanting control chips in Jiro, Ichiro, and the ally Bijinder to force obedience. The chip unexpectedly suppresses Jiro’s GEMINI conscience circuit, unlocking human-like duality (merging good and evil). Freed, Jiro destroys Ichiro and Bijinder, then kills Gil Hakaider during the Armageddon Lord’s generator explosion.
