TV-Series
Description
Menator emerges as the primary antagonist during the final story arc of the original series. He commands the Olmec civilization, descendants of survivors from an ancient global war who sought refuge deep beneath the Mountain of the Burning Shield. Centuries of isolation in this subterranean world induced profound physical mutations among the Olmecs: enlarged frontal bones, pointed ears, and short, thin statures. Their prolonged seclusion and dependence on limited cryogenic technology bred widespread sterility and genetic degradation, pushing their species toward extinction.
Menator asserts he extended his lifespan for hundreds of years using a self-developed medicinal formula. His driving ambition centers on securing the "Great Legacy," a powerful artifact concealed within one of the Cities of Gold, to reactivate and sustain the Olmecs' failing cryogenic systems. He also seeks healthy cellular samples from captured children—Esteban, Zia, and Tao—to reverse his people's mutations and restore their fertility. Viewing other races, especially the Mayans, as inferior, Menator pursues these goals with ruthless determination, prioritizing Olmec survival above all else.
The Olmecs wield remnants of their ancestors' advanced technology, primarily geothermal energy systems and medical stasis chambers. Though their armaments are largely spears and swords, they also deploy a unique flying machine armed with a particle beam or focused heat weapon, echoing the design and technology of the Golden Condor. Menator directs aggressive pursuits of the protagonists across South America, culminating in a confrontation within the City of Gold. There, he compels Esteban and Zia to unlock the city using their medallions, successfully seizing the Great Legacy.
The Great Legacy is ultimately revealed as a fusion reactor core. Menator transports it back to the Mountain of the Burning Shield for activation. However, without the stabilizing effect of Tao’s golden jar—later identified as a critical cooling component—the reactor initiates a catastrophic meltdown. This unleashes massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that destroy both the City of Gold and the Olmecs' subterranean stronghold. The meltdown is only averted when the High Priest of the City of Gold sacrifices himself to insert the jar into the reactor. Menator’s fate remains unresolved following this destruction, and his character does not reappear in subsequent continuations.
