Description
Bruno J. Global, an Italian-descended high-ranking officer in the United Nations Spacy, commanded the SDF-1 Macross during Space War I. His military career began before the Unification Wars, starting in the Italian Navy before transferring to the Far East Navy under Takashi Hayase. Global commanded the U.N. Navy submarine Marco Polo and later the Oberth-class space destroyer Goddard. He ordered the destruction of the hijacked sister ship Tsiolkovsky using reaction weaponry, marking the first recorded ship-to-ship combat with such ordnance.
Global married Miho Global in March 2003. Without children of their own, the couple formed a close, almost parental bond with Takashi Hayase's daughter, Misa Hayase. As captain of the SDF-1 Macross during its 2009 maiden voyage, Global prioritized avoiding alien hostilities, though an accidental space fold trapped civilians aboard. Throughout Space War I, he favored evasive tactics against the Zentradi, frequently relying on tactical input from First Lieutenant Misa Hayase. A controversial omnidirectional barrier failure destroyed an Ontario city, leading to the Macross's temporary exile from Earth.
Global later authorized the marriage between Zentradi defector Milia Fallyna and Maximilian Jenius, a key step toward peace. He lost his wife during an enemy ground assault. During events depicted in "The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?", Global debriefed Hikaru Ichijyo and Misa Hayase after their escape from a Zentradi ship and Earth's devastation. He announced a truce and military pact between the Macross and Zentradi forces, later broken by the Zentradi leader.
After Space War I, Global transitioned to administrative roles, promoting reconstruction and Zentradi coexistence. He designed the Humanity Seeding Project, a space colonization initiative to ensure human cultural survival. Rising to full Admiral and commander of the U.N. Spacy, he became U.N. Representative in 2014. One of his final acts appointed Misa Hayase captain of the colonization ship SDF-2 Megaroad-01. His legacy includes a namesake space port and the vessel SDFN-4 Global in later continuity.
Characterized as an old-fashioned yet pragmatic leader, Global often smoked a pipe during stress, a habit frequently challenged by bridge crew due to regulations. He maintained an approachable, non-authoritarian rapport with his crew, emphasizing camaraderie over strict discipline. His leadership balanced military acumen with civic responsibility, particularly concerning civilians aboard the Macross during wartime.
