Description
Barbas, a deity from the Crystania pantheon, was originally the god of rule, power, and vengeance. He maintained neutrality during the War of the Gods and escaped the conflict by fleeing to Crystania with other neutral deities. There, he shed his divine form, sealing his soul within a tiger to become the animal god king of rule, governing Berudia. His followers gained the ability to transform into tigers.

Centuries later, Barbas encountered Ashram, leader of the Marmo people from Lodoss seeking new lands. Barbas offered Ashram passage beyond the impenetrable Gods' Wall in exchange for Ashram's body. Ashram agreed, allowing Barbas possession. This human form granted Barbas significantly greater power than fellow animal gods, enabling him to break from Crystania's divine cycle. Declaring himself the "Gods' King," he sought to conquer the continent from Dayton Castle.

Barbas faced persistent resistance from Ashram's soul, which challenged his control over the body. This internal struggle weakened Barbas's dominance. He identified a young man named Redon, harboring intense anger, as a potential new host. Manipulating Redon's emotions, Barbas created an opening in the Gods' Wall to draw him in. He annihilated an entire village, including his own followers, to demonstrate power and convince Redon to accept his offer. When Redon refused to kill the dark elf Sheru (formerly Pirotess), Barbas was confronted. Sheru used the Chaos Ring to disrupt his control over Ashram's body, leading to his defeat.

Following this defeat, Barbas's spirit endured. His followers plotted his resurrection by sounding the Bell of Wakening, protected by a spell preventing Crystanians from activating it. Barbas's lieutenant Garudi sought to destroy all Chaos Rings and their users to eliminate threats. During this time, Barbas continued tormenting Ashram's soul, imprisoning him in the World of Chaos and posing as Ashram's former king, Beld, to manipulate events. Haunted by dreams of Ashram's suffering, Sheru embarked on a quest to enter the chaos realm using another Chaos Ring to confront Barbas. Barbas's spirit was ultimately defeated when Ashram reclaimed dominance over his own body during a final confrontation in the chaos realm.
