Description
Colonel Millard Johnson commands the New Edwards Test Flight Facility on the colony planet Eden, directing Project Super Nova in 2040. This United Nations Spacy program selects the next-generation variable fighter through competitive trials between the YF-19 and YF-21 prototypes. He navigates the intense rivalry between test pilots Isamu Alva Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman, whose personal clashes frequently jeopardize the project.

Johnson leads pragmatically, relying on an intuitive grasp of interpersonal dynamics. He often counsels Isamu with philosophical advice, though these attempts typically frustrate the younger pilot. Preferring indirect manipulation over direct confrontation to resolve conflicts, his methods reflect his own past. When Isamu steals the YF-19 prototype to intercept the Ghost X-9 drone, Johnson reveals he once committed similar acts, stealing aircraft in his youth. He deliberately covers for both Isamu and Guld, acknowledging his own superiors afforded him similar protection decades before.

A career-ending injury before Project Super Nova led to Johnson using a robotic prosthetic leg. This limb functions as a mechanical attachment, not a cybernetic implant integrated with his nervous system. It lacks fine motor control and tactile sensation, permanently grounding him from piloting due to an inability to perform precise flight operations like pedal work.

During the Sharon Apple crisis, Johnson acts decisively, authorizing emergency deployment. He and engineer Lucy Macmillan observe as Guld pursues Isamu in the stolen YF-21 to confront the rogue AI. Privately, Johnson expresses hope for Isamu's success, revealing an investment in the pilots' fates beyond mere protocol. His command decisions contribute to resolving both the Ghost X-9 threat and the Sharon Apple incident, enabling Project Super Nova's continuation after the UN government bans AI development.

Johnson's background prior to Eden remains undocumented in available records, including his specific military career path, the circumstances of his injury, or activities following Project Super Nova.
