Description
Isamu Alva Dyson was born on Earth on March 27, 2015, but grew up on the colony planet Eden. There, he attended Della Musica High School and forged a close bond with Guld Goa Bowman and Myung Fang Lone. He and Guld shared a passion for flying, often chasing the planet's indigenous giant birds to study their flight. This friendship shattered during their teens when Guld witnessed a tender moment between Isamu and Myung. Guld’s violent outburst in response drove the trio apart, and both Isamu and Myung later left Eden separately.
On September 1, 2034, Isamu joined the U.N. Spacy as a fighter pilot. He flew the VF-11 Thunderbolt variable fighter against renegade Zentradi forces, achieving an astronomical kill count due to his extraordinary skill. His service was equally marked by showmanship, daredevilry, insubordination, and a reckless, independent nature, which consistently displeased his superiors. In 2040, during a deep-space combat sortie, he needlessly risked the lives of comrades by firing dangerously close to wingmen and interposing himself between enemy forces. This led to his reassignment. Unwanted for posts like satellite repair or coal mining, he was instead transferred to the New Edwards Test Facility on Eden to join Project Super Nova, a role he embraced.
At New Edwards, Isamu became the seventh test pilot for Shinsei Industries' YF-19 Excalibur prototype, a high-performance, bleeding-edge variable fighter known for incredible speed and maneuverability but notorious difficulty to control. The aircraft’s unconventional, thrill-seeking design matched his own personality perfectly. He affectionately called it "pretty girl" or "kawaiiko-chan." His carefree, reckless testing methods often angered engineers but demonstrated the craft’s extreme potential. His rival in the project was his former friend Guld, piloting the competing General Galaxy YF-21.
The reunion with Guld and Myung on Eden reignited long-standing tensions. The animosity between the two pilots severely disrupted testing, escalating into physical fights and unauthorized dogfights that caused significant property damage. In one test, Guld intentionally used his brainwave-controlled YF-21 to cause Isamu’s chase plane to crash. Their rivalry continued until Project Super Nova was canceled in favor of the unmanned X-9 Ghost fighter.
Determined to prove the necessity of manned fighters, Isamu, aided by YF-19 engineer Yang Neumann, stole the prototype and performed an unauthorized space fold to Earth. Guld pursued him, and during their dogfight, the two finally confronted past grievances. Guld regained his repressed memories of the childhood incident, realizing his own jealous rage had caused their friendship’s end. This clarity allowed them to reconcile.
When the AI Sharon Apple, emotionally controlled by Myung, turned malevolent and seized control of the X-9 Ghost and SDF-1 Macross defenses, Isamu and Guld joined forces. While Guld engaged and destroyed the Ghost at the cost of his own life, Isamu confronted the possessed Macross. Nearly hypnotized by Sharon’s voice, he was broken free by the sound of Myung’s. Isamu then destroyed Sharon Apple’s central computer, neutralizing the threat.
After these events, the U.N. government banned further AI development and allowed Project Super Nova to continue. Isamu survived and was last seen being waved to by Myung as the sun rose over Macross City.
