Description
Shin Mouri, occasionally localized as Cye Mouri, hails from Japan's Yamaguchi Prefecture along the Sea of Japan. He belongs to the historic Mouri clan, tracing lineage to 16th-century feudal lord Oe no Hiromoto. For generations, his family guarded the Hagi Sea and protected the Armor of Torrent (Suiko), while preserving martial arts, pottery, and tea ceremony traditions. Orphaned early by his father's death, Shin was raised by his chronically ill mother and older sister Sayoko, who later became engaged. This upbringing fostered his polite, gentle, and conflict-averse nature. Exhibiting exceptional aquatic prowess from childhood, he communicated with marine life through mutual trust bonds. At age 15, aided by orca companion Suiki, he retrieved the Suiko armor from a Hagi Sea crevice during a family rite, discovering his mother knew its legends.

Embodying the virtue "Shin" (Trust) through his water-based armor, he initially avoided combat. His arsenal included the dual-purpose Nijou Yari spear and the "Chō Ryū Ha" (Super Wave Smasher) attack, firing pressurized water streams. The armor featured a back-mounted tanto dagger and forearm tekkotsume claws, though he rarely used the latter. Shin manipulated water to form whirlpools or waves, lowered his helmet's face guard for underwater sight, swam through Level 4 rapids, and breathed indefinitely underwater. Reluctantly joining the war against Emperor Talpa (Arago), he felt lingering loneliness despite camaraderie and occasionally displayed youthful mischief. He disliked fish served with heads, enjoyed tea ceremony, cooking, and basketball, and admired historical figures Sen no Rikyu and Shinsaku Takasugi.

In the Gaiden OVA, Shin journeyed to the United States to rescue the captured Sage. He confronted the possessed Armor of Halo and freed the team from confinement by Shikaisen and a mad scientist. During the Legend of the Inferno Armor OVA, his combat aversion intensified. He refused to summon the White Inferno Armor, questioning perpetual conflict and rejecting his predestined role due to sensing the armors' corruption—a decision that averted catastrophe between White and Black Inferno armors. After briefly leaving the team, he rejoined them in Africa, nursing them through exhaustion and illness. Later, his armor was crystallized by Black Blaze. Shin ultimately purified both Inferno armors through his Trust virtue after recognizing Mukala’s restored humanity.

In the Message OVA, Shin matured physically to 174 cm and 63 kg, wearing a blue-gray hoodie, lavender shirt, pale blue shorts, sneakers, and white cap. He wept silently when wrongfully imprisoned by Suzunagi, demonstrating steadfast moral conviction. He maintained a close friendship with Kento Rei Faung, partnering in surfing and training, while sharing loyalty with Ryo Sanada and respectful camaraderie with Sage Date and Rowen Hashiba. Throughout his journey, Shin evolved from a gentle youth avoiding conflict to a warrior confronting destiny without compromising his principles of trust and peace.
