Description
Monge/Kaosu belongs to the Kaos clan, a lineage devoted to guiding humanity towards righteousness and shielding the world from evil. Clan members inherently sense goodness in others, with a single, exceptionally powerful leader emerging during crises to defend the virtuous, eliminate malevolence, and restore balance. His name reflects this heritage.

A millennium ago, Kaosu confronted the demon lord Arago during his assault on Heian-kyo (Kyoto). Unable to destroy Arago completely after defeating him, Kaosu took the demon's armor to an underground residence beneath the city. There, he performed mystic rituals, reforging the armor into nine distinct sets. Each armor embodied a specific human virtue—Righteousness (Jin), Justice (Gi), Courtesy (Rei), Intellect (Chi), Faith (Shin), Loyalty (Chuu), Obedience (Tei), Reverence for elders (Kou), and Tolerance (Nin)—to purify Arago's lingering evil and control its influence over future wearers, ensuring they could permanently destroy the demon.

Centuries later, during Japan's civil war period, Arago attempted another invasion. Kaosu defeated him again, imprisoning him in another dimension. He then scattered the nine reforged armors across the world, ensuring they would find bearers whose spirits aligned with their respective virtues.

In the modern era, sensing Arago's resurgence, Kaosu was guided by the white tiger Byakuen to locate and mentor the five Samurai Troopers destined to wield the primary armors. He provided cryptic guidance, intervened at critical moments, and oversaw their development, remaining a largely passive observer to allow them to learn through struggle and moral choices, acting only when essential. His characteristic appearance featured a wicker cone-shaped hat obscuring his face, often accompanied by a shakujo (tin staff). This staff shared design elements with the handle of a sword he used against Arago a thousand years prior, suggesting a possible transformation between the items.

Kaosu draws inspiration from the historical Japanese mystics known as the Shugendo, or Yamabushi (Mountain Ascetics), who blended Shinto and Buddhist practices, were militant, and specialized in combating evil spirits. His long hair (unusual for Buddhist monks), Buddhist-style chants, Shinto "medicine bag," and swordsmanship align with Shugendo traditions. The sect was largely eradicated during the Meiji Restoration's religious purges, explaining scarce historical records.

After the Troopers defeated Arago in the first season using the deus ex machina Kikoutei (Sun Armor) formed from their fused souls, Kaosu's role evolved in subsequent OVAs. The OVA *Legend of the Inferno Armor* explored the consequences and legacy of the Kikoutei armor's existence and use. Later OVAs, such as *Message*, further complicated his narrative role, with specific details about his actions in these sequels less clearly defined within the available sources.
