TV-Series
Description
Seiji Date, also known as Sage Date, is the Warrior of Light among five mystical armor-wearers. His green Halo Armor, Korin, draws power from light and embodies the virtue Rei (Grace/Wisdom). It includes the nodachi Korin Ken, featuring a hilt-mounted shuriken. His signature technique, "Rai Ko Zan," releases energy as a sphere or slashing beam, known as Thunderbolt Cut or Lightning Strike.

Born June 9, 1973, in Miyagi Prefecture, he belongs to the Date clan, descended from Date Masamune. This lineage inspires his characteristic hairstyle covering one eye, referencing Masamune's "One-Eyed Dragon" epithet. Both parents are alive: his mother is an emergency room doctor, his father serves in the police force. Primarily raised by his grandfather using traditional Bushi warrior methods, he has two sisters. The elder, Yayoi, is five years older and a medical student during the main series; the younger, Satsuki, is two years his junior. Childhood teasing by Yayoi, including dressing him in feminine clothing, caused his discomfort around girls. Early fragile health also led his family to dress him as a girl based on superstitions. During elementary school, peers feared his eyes, prompting Yayoi to suggest covering one to reduce intimidation.

A rebellious phase emerged in junior high. He joined the kendo club but disliked formal etiquette. His grandfather enforced bonsai cultivation and bamboo flute practice for discipline. During this time, he accidentally damaged a bonsai while mishandling a sacred sword, an incident his grandfather never discovered. A pivotal kendo tournament saw opponent Kazamatsuri Shingo cheat by throwing debris; Seiji retaliated by knocking off Shingo’s mask, resulting in disqualification. As punishment, his grandfather confined him to the basement, where he discovered the Halo Armor. Shingo later confessed, clearing Seiji’s name.

Personality-wise, Seiji speaks formally, exhibits calmness and maturity, making him the group's most composed member. He intensely opposes deception and evil, though provocation can trigger extreme rage. His interests include kendo, avant-garde bonsai, bamboo flute, swordsmanship, F1 racing, and cycling. He demonstrates perceptiveness in battle, preferring strategy over impulsiveness. While uneasy about non-combatants like Mia and Yuli accompanying the warriors due to safety risks, he reluctantly accepts their presence. Within the team, he exhibits strong loyalty, particularly shielding Ryo from danger, and shares a close friendship with Rowen stemming from similar intellectual pursuits.

During the Dynasty's initial invasion, he arrives in Tokyo alongside the other warriors. After temporal dispersal by Talpa, Ryo rescues him from the Pinnacles; Seiji later aids Ryo by restoring his sight after a blinding injury. Accompanying Mia to locate Kento, he protects her from a wolf attack and devises a method to free Kento from petrification. He later detects Dais’s illusions manipulating the group, though Kento’s inability to hear warnings results in Seiji being attacked before the illusion breaks.

In the Gaiden OVA, he travels to New York to authenticate a sword bearing the Date crest but is captured by the spirit Shikaisen and a mad scientist. His armor is manipulated to commit murders across the city, including killing Runa’s brother. After rescue by the other warriors, he battles Shikaisen directly before combining powers with the team to summon the Inferno Armor for victory.

Physically, he has wild blonde hair and pale purple eyes. His height is 167 cm (5'5.7") during the TV series. Typical attire consists of a yellow shirt, deep blue-green jacket, tan pants, and brown shoes. In Gaiden’s conclusion, he wears civilian clothing—a white dress shirt and tan pants. For Legend of the Inferno Armor, he dons a light-colored dress shirt with a teal handkerchief pocket, tan pants, and brown shoes. By Message, his height increases to 175 cm (5'8.8"), and he adopts a purple ascot with a yellow dress shirt, green jacket, and light pants.
