OVA
Description
Alcyone, an ice sorceress and former protégée of Master Mage Clef, abandons her duty to guard the Pillar of Cephiro after her unrequited obsession with High Priest Zagato drives her to betray Clef and Princess Emeraude. Swearing allegiance to Zagato, she becomes his fiercest yet unreciprocated devotee, her actions fueled by reckless infatuation.

Across the manga, she repeatedly clashes with the Magic Knights, only to falter each time. Zagato, repelled by her failures, executes her after her second defeat. The anime extends her arc beyond Zagato’s death: captured by the witch Debonair, she is brainwashed into channeling invading monsters. Regaining autonomy, she thwarts Debonair’s schemes but dies by the witch’s retributive strike.

The OVA reimagines her motives as loyalty to Cephiro. While tormenting the Magic Knights with glee, she claims to safeguard her homeland. Eagle Vision, the OVA’s antagonist, strangles her following her loss to Hikaru. Posthumously, he revives her spirit, binding her to his will yet honoring her dying plea to fight for Cephiro.

Her magic specializes in ice: hurling spears, summoning blizzards, and conjuring two-headed wolves. Despite Clef’s training, her spells lack the potency and adaptability of her peers. A recurring flaw—underestimating foes—seals her repeated defeats.

The Sega Saturn game briefly revives her post-apparent death, placing her in Zagato’s palace with ambiguous purpose. Her design—dark leather armor, winged headpiece, and metallic accents—remains largely unchanged across adaptations.

Exploited successively by Zagato, Debonair, and Eagle, Alcyone’s arc spirals into tragedy. Her inflexible devotion traps her in cycles of manipulation and discard, culminating in demise without redemption. Each iteration concludes with her destruction, a consequence of her unyielding, self-sabotaging resolve.
