Description
Fuu Hououji, also known as Anemone in Italian adaptations, is a 14-year-old junior high student from a prestigious academic school. Excelling in mathematics and computer programming, she aspires to become a systems engineer. Her interests include archery club activities, reading, and RPG games. Her family consists of parents and an older sister, Kuu.
Transported to Cephiro during a Tokyo Tower field trip, Fuu becomes the strategic center of the Magic Knights trio. She displays a calm and polite demeanor mixed with blunt observational humor, often stating obvious truths that frustrate her teammate Umi. Initially reserved and morally cautious, she possesses keen curiosity and logical problem-solving skills, frequently devising plans to overcome obstacles. Her intelligence leans academic rather than practical, though she adapts tactics in crises, such as shattering a monster-creating stone in the Forest of Silence or negotiating with adversaries.
Her combat abilities center on wind-based magic, prioritizing defense and healing. Spells include "Winds of Healing" (Iyashi no Kaze), "Emerald Typhoon" (Midori no Shippu), and the anime-exclusive "Emerald Cyclone" (Midori no Zenpuu). She initially wields a bow crafted by blacksmith Presea, reflecting her archery skills, but later acquires the massive Escudo sword—light for her yet immovably heavy for others. She revives the Rune God Windam, resembling a four-winged bird, which later evolves into an armored mecha.
Fuu develops a romantic connection with Ferio, Princess Emeraude's brother, whom she meets early in the quest. Their relationship deepens across media: in the manga, Ferio gifts her a ring during their first separation, while the anime provides them with a communication device. Fuu grapples with guilt following Emeraude's death, though Ferio remains steadfast. In the anime's second season, imprisoned in Fahren, she wins an archery duel against Lady Aska, forging a friendship and later helping dismantle Aska's ambitions by revealing the Pillar's burden.
The OVA presents a divergent portrayal: Fuu attends school with Hikaru and Umi pre-graduation, plays piano instead of archery, and exhibits less politeness. Piloting the Sky God Windam, she opposes Ferio during Cephiro's invasion of Earth, their relationship turning adversarial under altered backstories. This version omits her weaponry and armor evolution.
Fuu's development transitions from analytical detachment to emotional resilience. Doubts surface, like choosing between Ferio's life and Windam's power in the anime, or jealousy affecting her judgment. These are resolved through self-sacrificial actions, such as healing allies mid-battle or confronting enemies alone. Post-Emeraude's death, she initially masks grief but later advocates for reforming Cephiro's Pillar system. The manga concludes with her returning to Cephiro alongside Ferio, who credits her for his happiness.
