OVA
Description
Hikaru Shidou, a 14-year-old Tokyo native, grew up in a kendo dojo alongside three older brothers and her loyal dog Hikari. Her childhood forged a tomboyish demeanor and masterful swordsmanship, honed by defeating her father in a match at age five—a victory that spurred his departure on a training journey. These experiences prepared her for destiny as Cephiro’s Magic Knight of Fire, wielding a blade that bursts into flames at others’ touch and fiery spells like Flame Arrow and Crimson Lightning.

Summoned alongside Umi Ryuuzaki and Fuu Hououji to protect Cephiro, Hikaru faced trials testing her resolve: battling illusions of her beloved dog, overcoming brainwashed allies, and emerging as a steadfast leader who rallied her friends through adversity. The traumatic aftermath of slaying Princess Emeraude and Zagato left her guilt-ridden, manifesting Nova—a shadow self embodying her sorrow—who haunted her in the anime’s second season. Overcoming this inner turmoil required repairing her shattered sword, confronting Nova, and a fleeting confession of love for Lantis, Zagato’s brother, later forgotten.

The manga diverged subtly, depicting Hikaru’s affection for both Lantis and Autozam’s leader Eagle Vision. During Cephiro’s Pillar selection, she prioritized compassion over combat, refusing to fight Eagle and defying the Creator to save him. As the new Pillar, she dismantled the system, entrusting Cephiro’s fate to its people. The anime deepened her guilt and relationships, emphasizing romance with Lantis and friendship with Eagle, culminating in her rejection of the Pillar role to ensure collective stewardship.

In the OVA’s alternate timeline, Hikaru reunited with Umi and Fuu to thwart Eagle’s plot against Earth, her Mashin Rayearth renamed Lexus as she clashed with remnants of Zagato’s forces. Despite her petite stature and vibrant energy often mistaken for childishness, Hikaru’s compassion shone through her bond with Mokona and ability to communicate with animals. Her journey transformed her from a spirited warrior into a reflective leader, balancing innocence with the weight of responsibility, ultimately championing unity over solitary sacrifice.
