Description
Pteri is a small robotic companion designed with a pterosaur-inspired appearance, featuring an orange-red body and a white underbelly. Promotional materials or merchandise sometimes depicted a more yellowish-orange hue due to ink variations reacting to light, though this was often unintentional. The design remained largely consistent across media, except for a minor variation in the Dream Time Machine Special featuring a longer head crest.

Functionally, Pteri serves as a Time Guide, providing historical information about figures, events, and Time Shifters. The robot corrects misinformation, such as clarifying Vlad the Impaler inspired the Dracula legend but was not a vampire. Pteri also maintains timeline integrity using a "Memory Beam Erase Mode" to remove memories of 25th-century interventions and prevent temporal disruptions. Additional capabilities include communicating via the Ridon device to contact Dr. Bernard Goodman, summoning Time Shifters, and using eye-mounted cameras to record and report activities, as revealed in episode 37.

Personality-wise, Pteri expresses emotions like fear despite being a robot and often floats silently unless contributing information. The character is cautious about revealing knowledge that could alter timelines, though this backfired in episode 34 when accidentally sparking Thomas Edison's interest. Pteri also objects to rough treatment, asserting "this wasn't how to treat a lady."

Assigned as a partner to the protagonist, Pteri frequently appears alongside him in merchandise and early episodes, though narrative focus later shifted toward other characters like Lovelove. The robot lacks defensive abilities beyond flight, making it a recurring target for capture by antagonists seeking to prevent summons for help.

Pteri debuted accompanying the protagonist to ancient eras in Episode 2. The character's Japanese name, "Putera," derives from "Pterosaur," with the suffix "-ra" indicating a feminine connotation. The nickname "Puu-chan" implies a youthful status relative to other characters. In the English adaptation, the character was reconceived as male and renamed "Pterry."

Manga portrayals in Bom Bom Comics presented slight variations: Pteri did not use memory erasure, allowing minor historical alterations provided the timeline remained intact, and exhibited fewer overtly comedic traits compared to the anime.
