Richard Leakey, a freelance cameraman, partners with journalist Sybel to probe a military helicopter crash linked to experimental M-66 androids. While documenting the wreckage, both are apprehended by Special Operations Forces. Under interrogation via sodium pentothal, Leakey divulges details of their mission.

When rogue androids assault the facility, Sybel capitalizes on the chaos to liberate herself and Leakey. Post-escape, Leakey is charged with distributing incriminating footage to news outlets while Sybel tracks additional leads. He secures a sale but claims sole credit, only for the broadcast to expose compromising footage of him unconscious during their flight.
