Description
Ikuro Hashizawa, once an ordinary teenager, became the host of the parasitic bioweapon "Baoh" after a car accident claimed his parents. He was subsequently kidnapped by the Dress Organization (also called Doress or Judas Laboratory) and subjected to experimental implantation of the Baoh parasite, a bio-engineered organism designed to forge the ultimate weapon. This parasite bonds with its host's brain, granting transformative abilities activated under threat or duress, known as the Baoh Armed Phenomenon.
In his human form, Ikuro possesses average physical stature, dark layered hair, and typically wears a sleeveless vest over a turtleneck shirt, fingerless gloves, and light pants. His personality blends friendliness with protectiveness, especially towards the psychic girl Sumire, whom he meets during their escape from Dress. He demonstrates a readiness to engage in morally ambiguous acts like theft for survival. Initial amnesia concerning his past stems from trauma or experimentation.
Transforming into Baoh radically alters Ikuro's physiology: his skin turns bluish, his eyes glow within a cracked, shell-like ocular region, and his hair is replaced by fleshy strands. A prominent vertical oval "tactile sensor" manifests on his forehead, detecting emotions such as murderous intent as scents. In this state, his personality shifts towards extreme violence and amorality when confronting perceived threats. Over time, the parasite's consciousness synchronizes with Ikuro's will, enabling him to retain awareness and selectively activate abilities without full transformation.
His abilities encompass superhuman strength, agility, and durability sufficient to deflect bullets. He regenerates from severe injuries and can reattach severed limbs, though destruction of the brain or incineration of the parasite is fatal. The parasite also induces suspended animation when submerged in saltwater, halting aging indefinitely. Specific Baoh Armed Phenomenon techniques include the Meltedin Palm Phenomenon, secreting corrosive enzymes from his hands to dissolve materials; the Reskiniharden Saber Phenomenon, generating blade-like projections from his forearms for slashing attacks that can be detached as projectiles via "Saber Off"; the Shooting Bees-Stingers Phenomenon, launching combustible hair needles ignited by body heat; and the Break-Dark-Thunder Phenomenon, emitting 60,000 volts of electricity capable of powering external devices like laser cannons.
His narrative involves escaping Dress captivity with Sumire while pursued by the organization's assassins, including Number 22, the cyborg Dordo, and the psychic warrior Walken. Through these confrontations, Ikuro gradually masters his transformations, using them to protect Sumire and defeat adversaries. The climax occurs at a Dress facility where he rescues Sumire from torture, defeats Walken, and inadvertently causes the facility's destruction. Ikuro enters suspended animation underwater to survive the collapse, while Sumire foresees his eventual return when she turns seventeen.
The Baoh parasite has a defined life cycle: it lives 111 days within a host before maturing into an imago, laying eggs that hatch into larvae. These larvae erupt from the host's body to seek new hosts, posing a global proliferation risk if unchecked.
