Description
Emi Hanner, twin sister to Yumi Hanner, is the daughter of retired United Planets Space Force Admiral Robert Hanner. She and Yumi first cross paths with Justy Ueki Tylor during a terrorist attack, where Tylor accidentally rescues them, their grandfather, and Yuriko Star while delivering a pension check. Inspired by this event, the twins use their family’s connections to join the UPSF and secure posts under Tylor’s command on the Soyokaze.
Emi and Yumi share a profoundly connected bond, often finishing each other’s sentences and rarely seen apart. Their personalities mix steely resolve with a buoyant cluelessness, most apparent in their dogged pursuit of pilot training from Kojiro, the Soyokaze’s misogynistic ace pilot. Though initially grating on him, their innate skill gradually wins his begrudging acknowledgment. The twins display fierce allegiance to Tylor, aligning with him during crew disputes and harboring unrequited romantic feelings despite his indifference.
Their upbringing as an admiral’s daughters shapes their strong sense of duty and drive to contribute aboard the Soyokaze. This ethos leads them to tackle ship tasks with initiative, exemplified when they cheerfully overhaul the vessel’s sanitation systems, blending playful diligence with earnest effort. Their twin identity is visually reinforced through mirroring hairstyles that form a cohesive whole when together.
During their Soyokaze service, Emi and Yumi evolve from awestruck Tylor devotees into capable pilots, their progress mirroring the crew’s shifting dynamics. Their rapport with Kojiro matures from persistent pestering to earned mutual respect, highlighting their tenacity and latent talents. While extended media explorations remain unrecorded, their core traits—loyalty, spirited enthusiasm, and harmonized actions—persist across all documented portrayals.
