Emi and Yumi Hanner are inseparable twin sisters with brown eyes and shoulder-length brown hair styled as two halves of a combined look. Teenagers and daughters of retired war hero Admiral Robert J. Hanner, they constantly appear together, often finishing each other's sentences. They display persistent determination when focused, such as doggedly pursuing flight lessons from Lieutenant Kojiro Sakai despite his reluctance and misogynistic views. While friendly towards the Soyokaze crew, they remain sometimes unaware of how their actions affect others, unintentionally annoying Sakai. The twins hold deep admiration for Captain Justy Ueki Tylor, usually supporting his decisions over others', rooted in his rescue of them, their father Admiral Hanner, and Yuriko Star from terrorists.
