Benzo Karino is a 24-year-old neighbor of the Kiteretsu family, living close to Eiichi Kite and his parents in the Omoteno area of Tokyo. A student at Takao University's Faculty of Economics, he relocated from his native Yamagata to pursue his studies. His path to admission was marked by significant perseverance, requiring six attempts to pass the challenging entrance examinations before finally succeeding.

As a university student, Benzo is consistently seen wearing his school uniform year-round, complete with its characteristically tight collar, and thick, bottle-bottom-style glasses. He is a member of Takao University's "Stone Buddha Study Group" and owns a car. Benzo primarily interacts as a friend and mentor figure to the younger Eiichi Kite and his friends, Kumada Kaoru (Buta Gorira) and Kouji Tongari, often tolerating their teasing while maintaining his supportive role.
