Etekichi is a chimpanzee who discovered an abandoned human infant on the African savanna and raised him. The child initially called him "father" but shifted to addressing him by his given name upon learning Etekichi had left his wife, Eteko. Despite being a chimpanzee, Etekichi frequently displays greater intelligence than significant human characters. He occasionally speaks human language, primarily presented as a comedic element. His behavioral traits include frequent masturbation and sexual activity with various female monkeys. Etekichi maintains a close relationship with the human he raised, acting as both stepfather and companion. He also interacts with other characters, including Jane, who understands chimpanzee language. In the animated adaptation, Etekichi narrated the episode titles. His role and characteristics remain consistent throughout the series and across documented media adaptations.
