TV-Series
Description
Magnum Ace emerged from a complex history of shifting identities and reprogramming. Originally designated Silver Frontier, he served in the Dark Kings organization alongside his brothers Silver Justice and Silver Galant. During this period, he mentored a rookie named Gold Arm, who later achieved prominence in the baseball league. Approximately ten years prior to the main events, Silver Frontier endured a forced retirement under undisclosed circumstances, resulting in complete memory loss. He was then repurposed as the military unit Iron Soldier VZ.
Guided by Ricardo Ginjō, he regained autonomy and adopted the identity Magnum Ace, joining the struggling sports team Silver Castle. His physical design retains elements of his military past, including a backpack unit from the Iron Soldier VZ era. Functioning as a baseball-specialized leaguer, he primarily pitches but demonstrates exceptional hitting prowess, frequently serving as the cleanup batter. His signature techniques include the "44 Sonic" pitch and its advanced variations: "44 Sonic on Fire," "44 Square" (developed with Jurota Kiwami's assistance), and the near-self-destructive "Asteroid Cannon." In soccer matches, he contributes to team-based special moves like "Lightning Crash" and "Super Nova."
A core aspect of his narrative involves opposing the Shock Circuit, an illegal control device implanted in leaguers by the Dark Sports Foundation to inflict pain and enforce compliance. Leveraging unexplained prior knowledge of its existence, he actively works to free affected leaguers from this system, driven by his belief in sportsmanship and fair play.
His character arc encompasses rediscovering his past. He learns that Silver Justice and Silver Galant, later known as Fighter Spirits and Fighter Arrow respectively, are his long-lost brothers. Their reunion occurs during competitive confrontations. His relationship with Gold Arm evolves from mentorship to rivalry, particularly after Gold Arm replicates the 44 Sonic technique. The OVA sequel reveals further challenges: Silver Castle's acquisition by the Universal Corporation leads to unethical practices and internal strife. Magnum Ace experiences temporary brainwashing in the OVA's fifth episode, aligning him with the corrupted organization before regaining his ideals.
Beyond the anime series and OVA, the character appears in video games. He is a primary playable character rescuing brainwashed allies and confronting Gold Arm in the *Shippu! Iron Leaguer* Game Boy title. He also features as a pilotable unit in *Super Robot Wars NEO* (Nintendo Wii) and as an SR to SSR rank unit in *Super Robot Wars X-Ω*.
Throughout all media, he maintains a humble and kind personality despite his veteran status. His physical resilience allows him to endure extreme conditions, including multiple near-fatal collapses from overexerting his techniques. A prototype reactor within his system activates under heightened determination, boosting his capabilities during critical moments. His legacy centers on restoring integrity to sports and protecting fellow leaguers from exploitation.
