Cowen was a human Getter Ray researcher working under Dr. Saotome. An elderly man with dark skin, large visible lips, and distinctive blonde hair styled like a mane, he typically wore sunglasses, a pink jacket, white shirt, and purple tie, maintaining a professional demeanor. Personality-wise, he exhibited traits of a mad scientist, driven by intense obsession with Getter Rays and a belief in forced evolution, remaining loyal to Dr. Saotome.
He shared a close, collaborative relationship with colleague Stinger, often addressing him informally. Both were infected and controlled by Invaders during the Moon Wars. Infected Cowen gained the ability to pilot the bio-mechanical weapon Metal Beast Poseidon. His expertise in weaponizing Getter Ray technology enabled him to sabotage intercontinental communications systems and orchestrate lethal traps, such as rigging explosives to eliminate political ambassadors opposing the Invaders' agenda after they infiltrated the Japanese government.
Following infection, Cowen physically merged with Stinger; Stinger formed the grey-armored upper body while Cowen became the lower body, his face embedded in the chest region and his skin turning purple. In this merged state, Cowen functioned as the primary offensive component, firing energy-based attacks through his mouth, with Stinger supplying power. They viewed this symbiosis as the next evolutionary stage for Getter Ray-influenced life.
Cowen participated in deploying a nuclear missile intended to spread Getter Rays globally, physically intercepting the Getter Team's efforts to stop it. Later, fused within Metal Beast Dragon, he and Stinger ambushed the Getter Team at Shin Dragon using illusions, gaining an initial advantage before being overpowered by the Stoner Sunshine attack, seemingly killed. They survived, relocated to Jupiter, and triggered the planet's transformation into a Getter Ray sun by deploying a Getter Furnace. In a final effort to eliminate the Getter Team, they merged into a colossal Invader entity emerging from Jupiter's flames. This form was bisected by the Final Tomahawk attack, resulting in their permanent demise.
Cowen's character arc is confined to *Getter Robo: Armageddon*.
