Forced to perform as a Scrapper under the alias "Juuzou," he reacted with sickness to his first kill but gradually developed violent tendencies and a detached view of death. Rescued during a CCG raid, his persistent violent behavior raised concerns. Investigator Yukinori Shinohara intervened, securing him a second chance. Juuzou enrolled in the CCG Junior Academy at 16, where he faced wrongful blame for animal killings committed by others, including Goumasa Tokage and Tooru Mutsuki, resulting in social isolation. Chairman Tsuneyoshi Washuu appointed him a Rank 3 Investigator at 19, and he formally adopted the name Juuzou Suzuya. Assigned as Shinohara's partner in the 20th Ward, he investigated cases like the Binge Eater. Juuzou initially exhibited a childish yet violently unrestrained personality, treating killing as routine and employing brutal methods without hesitation. His appearance featured shoulder-length white hair pinned with XIII-shaped clips, self-stitched body modifications marking his skin below the right eye and lip, and eclectic attire blending bright colors with CCG armor. During operations, he infiltrated Aogiri Tree's hideout, killed the already-injured Yamori, and acquired the quinque "13's Jason" crafted from Yamori's kakuhou. He later clashed with former academy classmates Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa during the raid on Kanou's lab, sustaining a stomach wound he stitched shut himself. A pivotal shift occurred when Shinohara suffered grave injuries inflicted by Eto during the Anteiku raid. Juuzou's anguish revealed his capacity for deep emotional bonds, and he later expressed remorse to Shinohara's family. In Tokyo Ghoul:re, Juuzou matured into a calmer, more empathetic leader while retaining traces of his playful demeanor, such as sharing candy. He dyed his hair black, wore a black suit with patterned suspenders, and utilized a prosthetic leg. As leader of Suzuya Squad (later S3 Squad), he demonstrated concern for subordinates' welfare, advising Tooru Mutsuki on managing fear during missions. His stitches were simplified, retaining only the dual X-shapes below his right eye. Eventually, his hair grew longer, often tied in a bun or ponytail, and his hairpins displayed the Roman numeral XIX ("Judgement"). Professionally, he rose to Special Class and was declared "The Next Arima" after Kishou Arima's death. Though dedicated to the CCG's mission, he framed ghoul extermination as duty rather than personal hatred, as evidenced when confronting Big Madam. He maintained a complex relationship with Haise Sasaki, bonding over shared experiences as CCG weapons. He retained ruthless efficiency in combat, utilizing quinque like Scorpion 1/56, 13's Jason, and Arata Joker.
