Description
Tomoru Shindo, a college student nearing graduation in City 5, grapples with uncertainty about his future while haunted by recurring dreams of shielding a woman from mechanical horrors and witnessing a towering mecha, Orgun, fleeing relentless pursuers. These visions emerge as fragmented memories transmitted by Orgun through an experimental device Tomoru employs to study brain frequencies during sleep. As the transmissions intensify, they erode his mental stability, intertwining his reality with Orgun’s traumatic history.

Orgun, a three-meter-tall Evoluder warrior, abandons his species after journeying 260 million years to Earth. His original form disintegrates during the voyage, but his encoded data reaches Professor Michi Kanzaki, who reconstructs a body for him. Psychically bonded to Orgun, Tomoru merges with the mecha to combat the Evoluders—biomechanical descendants of a failed Earth expedition to Cygnus two centuries prior. Time dilation and cosmic adversity mutated the mission’s crew into merciless mechanized entities intent on eradicating civilizations, including their ancestral home.

Tomoru’s bloodline—linked to a Cygnus mission member—enables his psychic union with Orgun, granting him access to the Evoluders’ destructive agenda. Reluctant to pilot Orgun, Tomoru battles the fear of being permanently consumed by the mecha. However, witnessing civilian suffering during assaults forces him to accept his role.

In their clashes, Tomoru discovers Orgun’s deeper aim: to shield Earth not just for humanity, but to reclaim his race’s lost empathy. During the climax, Orgun channels solar energy via a telekinetic ally to obliterate Commander Zoa’s antimatter cannon, sacrificing himself to halt the assault. Surviving the conflict, Tomoru contemplates Orgun’s legacy—preserving humanity while rekindling compassion within the Evoluders.

Post-battle, Tomoru departs Orgun’s wreckage alongside Professor Kanzaki as the Evoluders withdraw under Mhiku’s reformed command. Though he gains insight into their shared connection and the Evoluders’ transformation, his personal path remains undefined.

Tomoru’s arc unfolds across an OVA series and supplementary light novels, delving into his psychological turmoil and the Evoluders’ lore without expanding into alternate media or spin-offs.
