Description
Mozuku Kunato is introduced as the younger sister of Norio Kunato, a powerful and influential figure aboard the generation ship Sidonia. She is later revealed to be a placental clone, specifically engineered for unwavering loyalty to Norio. She resides within the Kunato estate, functioning as both a domestic servant and a technical aide, handling various tasks to support her brother’s operations.

Mozuku’s personality is defined by her soft-spoken demeanor and her complete subordination to Norio. She acts as a trusting friend and servant, showing unwavering signs of loyalty to him on multiple occasions. She does not act on her own initiative; her actions and decisions are almost entirely dictated by her devotion to Norio, leaving little independent personality to observe. This makes her an eerie and passive presence, whose sole purpose is to serve the Kunato family’s interests.

Her motivations are driven entirely by her engineered loyalty. After Norio is possessed by the immortal scientist Ochiai, Mozuku becomes infected by Ochiai’s mind-controlling virus and is used as a cover for his assistant. In her brainwashed state, she participates in battles by piloting the hybrid lifeform Tsumugi, which she controls before Tsumugi becomes confident enough to sortie without assistance. Her role in the story is to serve as a tool for Ochiai’s plans, subverting Sidonia’s laws from the shadows of the Kunato laboratory and facilitating Norio’s transition into a vessel for Ochiai’s intellect. Her actions are central to the unfolding conspiracy against Sidonia’s leadership.

Her key relationship is with Norio Kunato, whom she serves with fanatical devotion. This bond persists even after Norio’s corruption by Ochiai. Her relationship with Ochiai is a parasitic master-servant dynamic, where she becomes a willing instrument for his experiments, including the creation of Gauna-human hybrids.

In terms of development, Mozuku begins as a loyal servant, then is brainwashed by Ochiai and used as a pawn. She eventually has her original personality restored and elects to remain on Sidonia once the conflict is resolved. This return to her baseline self marks the end of her arc, with no further change noted.

Mozuku possesses no unique combat abilities of her own. Her notable ability is her role as a pilot of Tsumugi, a powerful hybrid organism. However, this ability is not inherent to her but is a consequence of Ochiai’s manipulation. Her primary function is not as a warrior but as a facilitator of the Kunato family’s dark ambitions, embodying the ethical ambiguities of Sidonia’s forbidden biotechnologies.
