Movie
Description
Jō Itsutsubashi is a character who serves as an ally and Shinkalion pilot, operating from the Shinkansen Ultra Evolution Institute's West Japan Command Office's Kyoto Branch while hailing from Yamaguchi Prefecture. He is an elementary school student, approximately eleven years old, and is the younger of a pair of twin brothers, with his sibling being Gin Itsutsubashi. A subtle physical distinction between them is often indicated by the color of their hair tips, with Jō typically having pink tips.
In terms of personality, Jō and his brother Gin are described as being nearly identical in their behavior and conduct, sharing most of the same quirks and mannerisms. This deep similarity makes them a very synchronized and reliable team, able to work well with others despite their strong shared interests. One of their most defining characteristics is an intense enthusiasm for fish and ichthyology. They possess an almost uncanny ability to distinguish wild-caught fish from farm-raised specimens and have a strong preference for the former, often becoming notably passionate or heated during meals or any discussion involving seafood. Jō also has a distinctive speaking habit, often adding the syllable "cha" to the end of his sentences.
Jō's role in the story is that of a pilot for a specialized Shinkalion unit. He is the designated pilot of the Shinkalion 700 Nozomi, a balanced-type robot that is more compact than many other units as it can transform from a single train vehicle rather than requiring a full formation. In combat, Jō and his brother prefer unorthodox, improvised tactics, which initially put them at odds with their teammate Takatora Kirishima, whose approach to battle was more rigid or by-the-book. This clash of styles was significant enough to prevent the successful combination of their three robots into the more powerful Shinkalion Trinity formation. The conflict was ultimately resolved through the intervention of the protagonist, Hayato Hayasugi, who helped all three come to an understanding. Following this reconciliation, Jō's relationship with Takatora improved considerably, to the point where the twins were happy to assist Takatora in finding high-quality fish for his cooking, having developed a particular fondness for his Satsuma-age, a type of fried fishcake.
Regarding notable abilities, beyond his piloting skills, Jō is distinguished by the unique capabilities of his Shinkalion. The Shinkalion 700 Nozomi is built for close-quarters melee combat and is armed with a weapon known as the Shinca Blade, which utilizes a dedicated IC card known as Shinca. The unit's ability to operate in a smaller, more compact form allows for a different style of fighting compared to larger Shinkalions. Throughout the course of his duties, Jō participates in joint missions with pilots from other branches, including critical defense operations during events involving new enemies and the deployment of the experimental Shinkalion ALFA-X prototype, demonstrating his adaptability in high-stakes scenarios.
