Description
Blind and bearded, the Old Man wears glasses and gloves. Appearing during a heavy storm in the "Invisible" segment, his guide dog becomes the first living being to detect the unseen protagonist's presence. Despite his visual impairment, the Old Man demonstrates keen perceptiveness, initiating a conversation with the Invisible Man and acknowledging his existence when sighted individuals ignore him. He shares food with the invisible figure. This pivotal encounter creates the opportunity for the Invisible Man's later heroic rescue of a runaway baby carriage. The Old Man's ability to sense the unseen, contrasting with the oblivious sighted, highlights themes of alternative perception. His storm-time appearance serves as the catalyst for the Invisible Man's emotional breakthrough and subsequent action.
