Yui Minagawa, a second-year university student and member of the occult research club, is trained in Chinese martial arts and takes pride in her physical prowess. Her club involvement leads to a secret summer mission where she and four fellow students break into the university vault, seeking rumored Tokugawa-era treasure. Inside, they discover two preserved mummies instead. Fellow member Sayaka Kamoshida steals a "stone of life" from one mummy, inadvertently reanimating both corpses. During the subsequent attacks by the reanimated entities Euphrosyne Studion and Alma V, Yui is killed. Euphrosyne breaks her arm, slams her against trees and the ground—shattering multiple bones—rips off her face, and throws her off a cliff.
