Description
Shun Kuroeda debuts in Episode 19 as a Mobile Assault Police officer, targeting science-based criminals. He pilots the black S.I.B. Max (Sonic Interceptor Black Max), modeled after Drive Head 00, alongside support vehicles Sonic Jet Eagle and Sonic Doberman John. His aggressive pursuit of Dr. Karigari initially leads the Mobile Rescue Police to mistake his black Drive Head for an enemy.

Kuroeda possesses spiked red hair, often hidden under a blue cap with a shark emblem, and black eyes. He typically wears a black shirt beneath a blue shark-logo jacket, a black belt, blue pants, and brown gloves, adding a black vest, helmet, and gloves for missions.

Impulsive, aggressive, and short-tempered in pursuit of criminals, he remains fundamentally kind-hearted. He cooperates with Mobile Rescue Police members like Gou Kurumada but intensely distrusts Dr. Karigari, constantly attempting his arrest despite occasional forced alliances against common threats—including saving Karigari from his own Walker Vehicle.

His investigations drive key arcs. He spearheads the inquiry into "Black Chips," dangerous hardware disabling machine safety protocols and causing city disasters. This involves surveilling a suspicious shop suspected of manufacturing them. Teaming up with Jin and Mikoto Ishino, he utilizes their Drive Head 03 Mk-II White Crystal Hope’s Cyber Eye Unit, confirming the shop's role in Black Chip distribution and enabling confiscations.

When an Evil AI immobilizes the Mobile Rescue Police and seizes the city, Kuroeda fights rogue Walker Vehicles solo. He later partners with Gou Kurumada against AI-generated Drive Head replicas, acknowledging Gou's skill despite his recklessness and proposing a future competition. To enable the Mobile Rescue Police's investigation of the Evil AI's origin beneath the Tower of Babel, Kuroeda deliberately starts a fire for justification. He provides cover fire during the assault, forming a temporary truce with Karigari to hold off enemy Drive Heads while Gou's team advances.

Months later, in the web series, Kuroeda investigates stealth fighter attacks on Mobile Rescue Police drivers. He identifies the craft as a stolen state-of-the-art weapon and links its operator to an android stolen during the Planetary Development Research Lab's destruction. Reconstructed footage reveals the android and pilot are the same entity—Terra, the Evil AI's new form.

The film sees Kuroeda transition to piloting the C.I.B. Max while mentoring four substitute drivers as potential S.I.B. Max successors. During a joint investigation with Detective Abe into civilians turning into metal, he learns of an attack on Mobile Assault Police headquarters. Confronting Terra, he fails to prevent the theft of the upgraded S.I.B. Mega Max (his former unit combined with support vehicles). In a critical battle, he reluctantly destroys the corrupted S.I.B. Mega Max to stop Terra, who declares imminent human extinction before escaping. Days later, with the C.I.B. Max undergoing repairs, Kuroeda cannot participate in the final confrontation against Terra.

He has a noted fondness for sweets, mentioned in the "Drive Head News Channel." Despite being a driver, he is absent from toy box art. His Korean dub name is Mu Jin Hyeon. The "black" in his surname references his Drive Head's color, while "Shun" means "falcon."
