Description
Kanata Ozora is a sixth-grade student at Aibo Academy who serves as the Star Dragon World representative in the World Buddy Masters tournament. His physical appearance includes turquoise hair with white tips and dark blue eyes. During casual moments, he wears a white shirt under a white and blue short-sleeved jacket with blue knee-length trousers and red sneakers. When engaging in soccer or buddyfights, he changes into a light blue soccer jersey with a red collar and white shorts, completing the outfit with white and turquoise cleats and a matching sweatband on his right wrist. When Kanata performs an impact, he gains prism dragon powers that cause crystals to cover his legs and feet while revealing a snowflake birthmark on his left cheek.

Kanata is widely described as a young genius who achieves perfect scores in every aspect of his life, including academics, sports, and buddyfighting. On the surface, he appears happy and smiles frequently, yet this exterior conceals a strong undertone of sadness and loneliness. His perfection creates a profound isolation, as it robs him of the joy of achievement and drives other people away, leaving him without perspective for his future. This emotional emptiness led him to quit buddyfighting entirely for a period, as he could find no opponents capable of challenging him. During his initial career, he won every match without losing a single lifepoint, earning him the reputation as the No-Damage Fighter.

The driving motivation behind Kanatas return to buddyfighting stems from his deep desire for meaningful competition. He initially refused the offer from Tasuku Ryuenji to represent Star Dragon World in the World Buddy Masters tournament, since Tasuku could not participate due to his duties with the Buddy Police. Only after Gao Mikado managed to defeat him in a penalty challenge did Kanata agree to a deciding fight against Tasuku. Tasuku lost without being able to deal any damage to Kanata, but the battle successfully reignited Kanatas fighting spirit, leading him to accept the role of Star Dragon World representative.

Throughout the World Buddy Masters tournament, Kanata maintained his legendary status as a no-damage fighter, winning every match sovereignly. He achieved a particularly notable victory against Gaito Kurouzu, overcoming the Instant-Win-Impact known as Death Count Requiem using the protective spell Asterism. This victory advanced him to the grand finale against Gao Mikado. The final match proceeded as expected until the seemingly impossible occurred, Gao and his buddy Batzz managed to destroy Athora and inflict the first damage Kanata had ever received in his entire fighting career. Rather than being bothered by the end of his perfect streak, Kanata appeared glad and excited by this development, demonstrating his deep yearning for genuine challenge over hollow perfection. Despite a strong comeback, he ultimately accepted his first loss to Gao in the final round of the World Buddy Masters, an experience through which he learned what disappointment feels like.

Kanatas role in the story extends beyond the tournament itself. After the World Buddy Masters, the antagonist Wisdom appeared and offered Kanata a chance to join his cause, but Kanata refused the offer and chose to buddyfight him instead. During this battle, he felt anger and rage rising within him when facing Wisdom, though he was ultimately defeated. At a training camp, he and his friends worked to rescue their buddies, receiving guidance from Guru Bunbuku that helped strengthen his relationship with his own buddy monster.

His most significant relationship is with his buddy monster, Quintessence Crystal Dragon Athora, who serves as his closest companion through both his periods of isolation and his return to competitive fighting. Another crucial relationship involves Keisetsu of the Sword Arts, as a flashback reveals that Kanata first met Keisetsu in a shop tournament. Kanata defeated Keisetsu without taking any damage, an event that caused Keisetsu to quit buddyfighting. This outcome troubled Kanata so deeply that he also decided to quit the game. After regaining his confidence thanks to support from Gao and his friends, Kanata faced Keisetsu in a rematch and lost. He persevered through another rematch, finally defeating Keisetsu with his new impact technique, Direct Dynamic Diamond Overhead. Following this battle, Kanata expressed his desire to face Keisetsu again someday, showing his growth from someone who avoided challenges to someone who actively seeks them.

Throughout the series, Kanata continues to develop both as a fighter and as a person. His partnership with Athora evolves from tactical dependence into a deep emotional connection characterized by mutual growth and resilience. Rather than remaining a solitary perfectionist who isolated himself from others, he learns to value meaningful relationships and challenging opponents. His character arc transforms him from a child who quit because he was too good into a fighter who embraces the possibility of loss as an opportunity for growth.

Kanatas notable abilities center on his mastery of the Star Dragon World Prism Dragons. His fighting style initially focused on damage prevention through Athoras protective capabilities, which allowed him to finish opponents during their own turns using impacts such as Dragons Fielder. After evolving his buddy into Heavenly Crystal Dragon, Aldo Athora, his strategy incorporated the Overturn ability, which redirects all attacks to Aldo Athora for a single turn, making the dragon immortal while dealing one damage per attack received. His deck includes cards such as Brush Upper and White Crystal Dragon Rizzling to expand his hand and gauge resources, as well as Spinel Crystal Dragon Spirytas for defensive summons when monsters are destroyed. His signature impact techniques include Dragon's Fielder and the ultimate attack Direct Dynamic Diamond Overhead, which counters enemy attacks while dealing decisive damage. When activating his impacts, he often announces phrases such as Its kick-off time. Kanata consistently equips Crystal Spikes and Crystal Greaves during his battles, drawing on his soccer background to inform his fighting style.
