Touma Tsukinami is a 13-year-old resident of Springdale possessing light skin, short green-tinted hair, and brown eyes that glow red under Onimaro influence, changing color during specific Yo-kai transformations via his Yo-kai Watch Ogre. He typically wears blue and black clothing with long trousers year-round, having previously donned a high school uniform comprising a white shirt, pale yellow vest, blue blazer, blue tie, black pants, and shoes. Raised amidst parental neglect due to his parents' demanding scientific careers, Touma suffered intense loneliness and bullying, fostering a cold, aloof, and apathetic personality that led him to avoid friendships. His resentment peaked when his parents missed his birthday, unaware they had attempted an apology that day. Exploiting this vulnerability, the Onimaro offered him the Kigan Gear, granting power to spread their infection and mutate humans into Kaodeka Oni. In this antagonistic phase, he displayed unsettling smiles and committed destructive acts, including throwing a police station worker through a window. A pivotal airport confrontation with Natsume Amano ended in his victory but subsequent collapse. Taken to Kitaro, a journey into his heart purged the darkness, revealing suppressed memories like a forgotten childhood friendship where he aided a knee-scraped Natsume. Cleansed, his Kigan Gear transformed into the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, enabling transformations into four distinct Genma Yo-kai: Yoshitsune (intellectual strategist), Goemon (agile fighter), Benkei (powerful defender), and Omatsu (female form with unique abilities). During the final battle against Oni King Rasen, Touma wielded the Fudou Raimeiken sacred sword as Lord Acala to behead the foe. Impaled by Rasen's crystallized blood, he died temporarily before resurrection via the self-sacrifice of Ogu, Togu, and Mogu—Onimaro who had grown to care for him. Post-events, Touma joined Natsume and Akinori Arihoshi to form the Yo-kai Detective Agency, solving supernatural cases. His transformation abilities expanded to include Sword Bearer forms using sacred swords like Stormweaver, Suzaku Sotenzan, and Genbu Hotenfu. Analytical and levelheaded, he often strategizes during investigations and calms impulsive teammates. Despite his reserved nature, he harbors a severe fear of solitude, visualized in nightmares of his friends' deaths. Unexpectedly, he exhibits enthusiasm for the "Lighting Speed Age" card game, becoming annoyed when rare cards are misused. He is the reincarnation of Boreas, one of Princess Juno's ancient knights, and maintains a complex relationship with the Onimaro trio who later reside within him to combat residual fragments of Rasen. A latent fragment of Oni King Rasen within his body was later extracted and destroyed. Haruya (Theo) showed interest primarily due to his possession of the Stormweaver, temporarily stolen to awaken the Princess. His family name "Tsukinami" translates to "moon wave," while "Touma" derives from "winter," consistent with the seasonal naming theme of other protagonists.
