Description
Mukumuku is a baku, a supernatural creature that feeds on human nightmares. He lives with and is cared for by Daichi Tachiaki, forming a core human-creature relationship. His appearance blends elements of a tapir and a large, fluffy guinea pig. Blue covers his front and rear sections, while his white torso features a distinctive blue star on each side. This fluffy, rounded physique defines his look.

Behaviorally, Mukumuku displays cat-like independence. He approaches others on his own terms and avoids disturbance when seeking solitude. This nature contrasts with other creatures, and some sources suggest he guards undisclosed secrets. He entered Daichi's life after protective charms were removed from Daichi's window, granting him access to consume nightmares and establishing their connection.

As a baku, Mukumuku possesses innate abilities. Primarily, he consumes nightmares to sustain himself. Beyond feeding, he manipulates dreams, capable of inducing both pleasant dreams and nightmares in humans. He can project a person's nightmare for others to witness. A related ability allows him to control a sleeping person's body movements, often used to manipulate individuals into opening windows for feeding access; he notably made Daichi dance while asleep. Additionally, bakus like Mukumuku possess exceptional alertness and speed, enabling supersonic escape the moment they sense a sleeping person is about to awaken, explaining their general elusiveness.

His relationship with Daichi is central. Mukumuku appeared to alleviate Daichi's chronic, debilitating nightmares, which had caused severe sleep deprivation leading to violent outbursts and a mistaken delinquent reputation. Consuming these nightmares allowed Daichi restful sleep, prompting a significant positive change in his demeanor. Daichi adopted Mukumuku out of gratitude for resolving his suffering. While Mukumuku generally tolerates Daichi's presence and handling, he will distance himself and ignore Daichi if disturbed during desired solitude.

The name "Mukumuku" originates from Japanese onomatopoeia meaning "shaggy" or "hairy," reflecting his fluffy appearance.
