Description
Kaede Marikouji, nicknamed Mariko or "Chō ojōsama" (Super Princess), is the primary sonar operator and bugler on the destroyer Harekaze. Her affluent upbringing instilled a consistently polite, calm, and refined demeanor, reflecting her status as a well-bred young lady. This background emphasizes the importance of maintaining beauty, particularly valuing hair as a critical aspect of a woman's appearance.
She possesses distinctive hip-length purple hair, featuring a single lock tied in a teardrop shape on the left side, with bangs framing her face. Her eyes show a gradual color gradient from yellow to brown. She typically wears her school uniform with a brown shawl and chooses a yellow two-piece bikini for swimming.
Beyond operating sonar, Kaede has exceptional auditory capabilities, detecting subtle sounds even without specialized equipment. She is highly proficient in combat, especially with a wooden naginata, a skill honed through traditional family training. This makes her one of the few crew members effective in close-quarters combat; she is also competent with one-handed weapons. She utilizes these skills during boarding actions against infected ships like the Hiei and Graf Spee.
Her childhood included extensive musical training on various instruments, though she struggles specifically with wind instruments, a limitation evident in her bugle calls for the Harekaze. Her family heritage is reflected in her favorite adage: "Woe to the musician who doesn’t travel."
As part of the Harekaze crew falsely accused of mutiny due to Kaoru Furushou's actions under the RATt Virus, Kaede participates in evading capture across the Pacific. Throughout these events, her sonar expertise, combat readiness, and composed demeanor remain consistent.
