Kaede Marikouji, nicknamed Mariko or "Chō ojōsama" (Super Princess), is the primary sonar operator and bugler on the destroyer Harekaze. Her affluent upbringing instilled a consistently polite, calm, and refined demeanor, reflecting her status as a well-bred young lady. This background emphasizes the importance of maintaining beauty, particularly valuing hair as a critical aspect of a woman's appearance.

She possesses distinctive hip-length purple hair, featuring a single lock tied in a teardrop shape on the left side, with bangs framing her face. Her eyes show a gradual color gradient from yellow to brown. She typically wears her school uniform with a brown shawl and chooses a yellow two-piece bikini for swimming.

Beyond operating sonar, Kaede has exceptional auditory capabilities, detecting subtle sounds even without specialized equipment. She is highly proficient in combat, especially with a wooden naginata, a skill honed through traditional family training. This makes her one of the few crew members effective in close-quarters combat; she is also competent with one-handed weapons. She utilizes these skills during boarding actions against infected ships like the Hiei and Graf Spee.
