Description
A.Z., the former king of Kalos who ruled approximately 3,000 years ago, originated from an era of intense warfare. His cherished partner Floette was forcibly conscripted and perished in battle. Overcome by grief, A.Z. constructed the Ultimate Weapon to resurrect her. The device succeeded but demanded the sacrifice of countless Pokémon lives, cursing both A.Z. and Floette with immortality while causing A.Z. to grow over nine feet tall. Despite reviving Floette, his anguish over the war drove him to modify the Ultimate Weapon into a destructive instrument. He deployed it to end the conflict at catastrophic cost, horrifying Floette, who then abandoned him.

Burdened by guilt for millennia, A.Z. wandered the world wearing a key to the Ultimate Weapon around his neck as a reminder. In the modern era, he appeared on Route 13 in Kalos, speaking cryptically about an eternally living flower Pokémon. Lysandre, leader of Team Flare, later captured A.Z. to reactivate the Ultimate Weapon for genocidal purposes. A.Z. warned Lysandre against repeating his mistake, but his pleas were ignored. Lysandre confiscated the key necklace before Team Flare's defeat by a new generation of trainers prevented the weapon's activation.

Following these events, A.Z. approached the newly crowned Kalos Champion during their Hall of Fame ceremony and initiated a battle. This confrontation served as a cathartic release, allowing A.Z. to directly confront his lingering sorrow and regrets. The battle concluded with A.Z. expressing gratitude to the champion, signifying an internal resolution of his millennia-old guilt. This emotional unburdening prompted Floette to finally return, reuniting them after 3,000 years of separation.

After the reunion, A.Z. adopted a quieter life in Lumiose City. Alongside Floette, he became the proprietor of Hotel Z, a renovated establishment. There, he assists travelers and contributes to the city's redevelopment efforts, marking a peaceful chapter focused on hospitality and atonement, distinct from his ancient reign and centuries of wandering.
