Description
Brain Unglaus, a human swordsman from the Re-Estize Kingdom, transitioned from farming to swordsmanship after discovering his prodigious talent. His undefeated duel record fostered unwavering confidence until he lost to Gazef Stronoff in the finals of the royal guard captain tournament. This defeat shattered his self-image and ignited an obsessive pursuit of strength. Declining noble offers, he joined the Death Spreading Brigade as a mercenary for sustenance. During this phase, he displayed arrogance and moral ambivalence—avoiding criminal acts like murder or slavery but never opposing them.

His trajectory shifted during a confrontation with Shalltear Bloodfallen of Nazarick. When she attacked the brigade’s hideout, Brain witnessed his strongest technique nullified effortlessly, exposing the chasm between human and Nazarick power. Crushed by despair, he fled the battle, abandoning comrades, and fell into catatonic depression. Gazef discovered him in the capital, offering shelter and catalyzing his gradual recovery.

Interactions with Climb and Sebas Tian further transformed Brain. Seeing Sebas wield power protectively and Climb endure killing intent where he faltered, Brain reevaluated strength, embracing honor, friendship, and protection—ideals he once discarded. This philosophical shift drove him to confront Shalltear again during Jaldabaoth’s invasion. Using "Nail Clipper," a new technique merging Fourfold Slash of Light, Field, and God Flash, he cut her fingernail. Though minor, this symbolized his mental resilience and skill against insurmountable odds.

After witnessing Gazef’s death via Ainz Ooal Gown’s instant-death spell at the Battle of Katze Plains, Brain retrieved his body. Vowing to surpass Gazef while honoring his legacy, Brain occupied Gazef’s home and trained orphans as future kingdom protectors. Under Princess Renner’s direction, he recruited two Six Great Disciples disciples for rigorous instruction. Anticipating political chaos, he coordinated with Vesture Kloff Di Laufen to secure escape routes for his students.

Brain’s technical evolution began with raw talent but matured into unique martial arts:
- **Field**: Perception-based clairvoyance within three meters, countering invisibility and illusions.
- **Instantaneous Flash** and **God Flash**: High-speed slashing techniques.
- **Wind of the Great Forest**: A blend of Field and God Flash.
- **Nail Clipper**: Precision strike fusing Fourfold Slash of Light, Field, and God Flash.
- **True Nail Clipper**: Enhanced version incorporating Sixfold Slash of Light.
His equipment included a nonmagical yet razor-sharp katana, Necklace of Eye (visual protection and night vision), Ring of Magicbound (low-level spell storage), and augmentative potions or oils.

Alternate continuities diverge: In the web novel, Shalltear turned Brain into a vampire during their first encounter, preventing meetings with Climb or Sebas and leading him to kill a worker in Nazarick’s invasion. The author initially conceived Brain as homosexual but revised this to prioritize his swordsmanship obsession.
