Description
Morio Sawatari reconnects with childhood friend Kokone Morikawa after returning from his first year of college in Tokyo. When Kokone’s father faces arrest for corporate espionage, Morio becomes essential to her survival. He aids her in evading corporate agents hunting a tablet containing her parents' self-driving car software, helping recover the device and joining her journey from their hometown to Tokyo to seek help from her grandfather, chairman of Shijima Motors. Along the way, he offers practical assistance like lending his jacket against the cold and securing their transportation tickets.

During a motorcycle ride, Morio experiences a merging of reality and fantasy when he shares Kokone’s dream of the kingdom Heartland, witnessing the motorcycle appear to fly—a phenomenon he later attributes to its self-driving functions. His presence in these dream sequences ties him to the allegorical depictions of Kokone’s family history within Heartland. Morio exits the narrative before the climax to resume his studies, with his departure acknowledged in dialogue.
