Description
Ikumi Morikawa, formerly Ikumi Shijima, was the deceased mother of protagonist Kokone Morikawa and wife of Momotaro Morikawa. She died in an accident during Kokone's early childhood, leaving Momotaro to raise their daughter alone. Her background identifies her as the daughter of Isshin Shijima, chairman of Shijima Motors. She defied her family's expectations by eloping with Momotaro against her father's wishes, resulting in a lasting estrangement.

Her technical legacy stems from pioneering research into self-driving car technology conducted for the "e-Heart" project at Shijima Motors. Despite developing innovative concepts, her proposals faced rejection by the company leadership, including her father. Following her death, Momotaro continued and completed her unfinished work using a specialized tablet computer containing her research data and software. This tablet later became a focal point of corporate espionage.

Ikumi's creative influence included crafting bedtime stories before her death. These tales featured a princess named Ancien in a mechanized realm called Heartland, weaving elements of Ikumi's own life, relationships, and research into the narratives. They became the foundation for Kokone's vivid dreams, where characters and events symbolically mirrored real people and conflicts: Heartland's King represented Isshin Shijima, the character Peach embodied Momotaro, and the magic tablet directly correlated with Ikumi's real-world device. A climactic dream sequence depicted a tragic event paralleling Ikumi's fatal accident, showing Ancien (as a younger Ikumi) falling during a battle with the Colossus monster after activating a giant robot—a metaphor for her testing accident. This fall resulted in the cracking of the magic tablet, mirroring the damage to the physical device.

Her enduring presence manifests through interconnected realities. In Kokone’s pivotal dream, Ikumi explicitly appears as herself rather than as Ancien, declaring her intent to aid Peach "one last time" before falling. This foreshadows the real-world climax where her self-driving technology, embedded in the family motorcycle named Heart, autonomously intervenes to protect Kokone and Momotaro during their escape. Her legacy is further cemented through Kokone's realization that her own name fuses concepts from Shijima Motors' motto ("heart" and "wing").

Post-credits scenes depict her early life with Momotaro, including their courtship and collaborative testing phases of her automotive software.
