Description
Suzuki Satoru was a human salaryman in dystopian 22nd-century Japan, devoid of social connections and consumed by work. His sole escape was the dive MMORPG YGGDRASIL, where he played the undead mage "Momonga." As guildmaster of Ainz Ooal Gown, he commanded one of YGGDRASIL's premier guilds from their headquarters, the Great Tomb of Nazarick. During the game's shutdown, Momonga remained logged in and awoke in a reality where Nazarick and its NPCs gained true life. Adopting the guild name as his own, he became Ainz Ooal Gown, the last remaining "Supreme Being" responsible for Nazarick's inhabitants.

In the New World, Ainz maintains two primary identities. As the Sorcerer King, he rules the Sorcerer Kingdom from a throne within Nazarick, appearing as a skeletal lich clad in elaborate black and gold robes, a crimson orb floating within his ribcage and a dark halo behind his skull. His undead physiology suppresses human emotions like fear or guilt, though flashes of his former humanity occasionally surface. Publicly, he projects the image of a benevolent ruler who abolished slavery and champions racial equality, though his policies ultimately advance Nazarick's expansion. His alternate identity, "Momon," is an adamantite-ranked adventurer in black armor with a red cape, wielding twin greatswords. This persona allows him to gather intelligence, cultivate heroic prestige, and test his combat capabilities while posing as a human warrior.

Ainz's personality embodies conflicting traits. He displays deep loyalty toward Nazarick's NPCs, viewing them as his guildmates' "children," ensuring their well-being through work-life balance adjustments and paternal guidance. However, his emotional dampening fosters detached cruelty toward outsiders; he authorizes torture, mass murder, and engineered conflicts with minimal remorse, operating on a principle of "repaying good with good, and evil with evil." Strategically, he relies on cautious experimentation and improvisation rather than master planning. While his subordinates, notably Demiurge and Albedo, interpret his vague comments as genius schemes, Ainz often conceals his confusion and retroactively claims credit for their successful initiatives to maintain their reverence. He obsessively hoards knowledge, items, and living specimens, driven by a collector's mentality and paranoia about potential threats.

Ainz possesses extensive magical capabilities as a level 100 magic caster. His Overlord racial classes grant immunities to instant death, mind control, poison, and holy damage, alongside dark vision and healing from negative energy. His signature spell, "Grasp Heart," instantly crushes a target's heart, while "Dark Wisdom" allows mastery of 718 spells—far exceeding typical limits. He wields the "Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown," which autonomously casts spells but risks dissolving the guild if destroyed. Though vulnerable to fire, light, and bludgeoning damage, he employs illusions and tactical deception to conceal these weaknesses. In physical combat as Momon, his immense strength compensates for inefficient dual-sword techniques.

Throughout his reign, Ainz evolves from a reluctant ruler into a utilitarian conqueror. Early actions focus on locating other players and safeguarding Nazarick, exemplified by his costly victory against the brainwashed Shalltear Bloodfallen. Over time, he embraces world domination to honor his guild's legacy, establishing the Sorcerer Kingdom through diplomatic coercion, such as vassalizing the Baharuth Empire via arena demonstrations, and genocidal warfare, annihilating the Re-Estize Kingdom. Despite his emotional suppression, he experiences loneliness for his lost friends and discomfort when NPCs like Albedo or Pandora's Actor remind him of his "cringeworthy" human past. His core philosophy centers on creating a stable, multiracial society protected by Nazarick's absolute power, viewing casualties outside this framework as acceptable losses.
