Description
Toshikazu Asagi, a genetically engineered human from the "Majestic Prince" project, possesses enhanced data-processing capabilities. This modification enables him to handle vast amounts of information but also causes chronic anxiety and stress-induced stomachaches. Initially part of Team Rabbits at the Military Junior Pre-Academy, the group earned the derogatory nickname "Fail Five" due to poor teamwork and coordination, reflecting their low standing.
Assigned as pilot of the 14-meter multipurpose combat unit AHSMB-001 Blue One, Asagi operates within the JURIA System, which links the mecha's responsiveness directly to the pilot's survival instincts. Early combat exposed his nervousness, including an incident where his anxiety caused the core unit to evade its frame armor during deployment, an event broadcast publicly and widely ridiculed. Despite this, he served as the team's close-quarters specialist, wielding weapons like an Assault Katana and Gun Halberd. His role evolved into second-in-command, frequently assuming tactical leadership during missions when primary leader Izuru Hitachi was incapacitated or focused on frontline combat.
Genetic testing later revealed Asagi and Izuru share Commander Simon as their biological father, making them half-brothers. This discovery intensified Asagi's protective instincts toward Izuru, solidifying their dynamic where Asagi acts as the calm, strategic Blue Oni to Izuru's passionate Red Oni. He harbors unexpressed romantic feelings for teammate Kei Kugimiya, suppressing these emotions upon recognizing her affection for Izuru and consciously supporting her happiness.
Following Izuru's coma after the final battle against Wulgaru prince Jiart, Asagi was formally designated leader of Team Rabbits. This promotion forced him to confront his self-doubt and anxiety. During a subsequent mission on Earth against residual Wulgaru forces, Blue One achieved an "Awakened" state marked by unfolding leg and arm coils releasing an orange aura. This transformation significantly boosted the unit's speed, power, and agility, enabling aerial traversal. The Awakened Blue One was destroyed shortly after by the enemy unit Diolune, though Asagi survived.
His character songs, including "No x No =" and "Ame no Nioi de" ("With the Smell of Rain"), reflect themes of perseverance and emotional resilience.
