Kasugai Crows serve as specialized communication birds for the Demon Slayer Corps, assigned to each active member. They deliver missions, relay real-time updates on demon sightings, and guide slayers to locations, proving indispensable for coordinating operations across vast distances due to their swift flight.
Most resemble standard crows capable of human speech, though their vocalizations are typically loud and abrupt. Exceptions include Muichiro Tokito's crow, distinguished by feminine eyelashes and clearer speech, and Zenitsu Agatsuma's companion—a sparrow named Ukogi (also called Chuntaro) who cannot speak. Ukogi passed the corps' selection test after demons killed his family, becoming the only non-crow Kasugai bird.
Each crow possesses a distinct personality and appearance reflecting their assigned slayer:
- Tanjiro Kamado's crow, Matsuemon Tennoji, exhibits high intelligence, self-named himself, and displays arrogance while frequently scolding Zenitsu.
- Inosuke Hashibira's crow, Dongurimaru, is highly intelligent but avoids his master due to repeated attempts by Inosuke to eat him.
- Tengen Uzui's crow, Nijimaru, adorns jewels and serves as a "fashion model" among crows.
- Mitsuri Kanroji's crow, Urara, wears a clover-shaped crown and shares her sweet tooth during tea times.
- Giyu Tomioka's elderly crow, Kanzaburo, occasionally forgets to deliver messages.
- Kagaya Ubuyashiki's unnamed crow demonstrates exceptional investigative skills, notably uncovering Tamayo's location.
Crows receive two names: a childhood name from the corps leader (Oyakata-sama) and a second name from their assigned slayer. Some retain their childhood name, others adopt their slayer-given name, or self-rename like Matsuemon. If a slayer dies, the crow may reassign to another member while keeping their previous name.
After the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, the crows were released from service but occasionally visited surviving corps members and the Ubuyashiki estate. Ginko (Muichiro Tokito's crow) fell ill due to grief over her master's death; Matsuemon comforted her, leading to their marriage.
